has anyone other than myself noticed how grey our president's hair has become in just three weeks? time for some Grecian Formula. and to think, he wanted the job. poor bastard.

but we now know that he feels like A-rod screwed up, condoms are not economically stimulating in any way shape or form and the White House Press Corps is made up of about 60% morons 30% reporters and 10% rabble-rousers.

and i hear, according to Hannerty, the current administration has failed in it's mission to save the world. what a long strange trip it's been.

coup de-ta, coup de-ta. viva liberte'

I guess that he's grey because he can't take time off of this job to run for a higher position that he's also not qualified for?

spoken like a true Republican Wes. rock on dude.

if it weren't for 9-11 would "W" have fared so well in his first year or so? not that GW did anything different than any one of us would have done given the circumstances of the times.

ahh wait, there was that poorly thought out Iraq thing, yayagh.

oh yeah, IBTL.

you didn't listen to the speech did you Wes? i heard the man ask Congress to send him a deal that would work for more people than the current rubbish on the table. look, you and i may be polar opposites as for our political affiliations but overall it's the economy we are all most interested in.

Actually, I just finished watching the press conference. I think that it's funny that a guy with 4 years* of legislative experience doesn't know how the game is played. Especially when he's insisting on playing Russian roulette with a double barreled shotgun by initiating Keynesian economic policies that have been proven time and again to not work in the real world. See also FDR.

oh yeah FDR. the guy that forced ya'll to institute term restrictions. what real world Wes? the one that is crumbling around us domestically or the one that we(the US) has attempted to control internationally?

a friend of my wife's stayed with us recently. she is British. while watching the national news she asked me "why does America feel the need to stick their nose in everyones business". i could not answer that question with anything that sounded reasonable to me.

isolationism is a failed ideal, but damn i do believe it is time the US spent some time and money at home.

I can't imagine anything more ironic than a Brit looking down on a world power that maintains her global influence.

i would say you do have a point there Wes. what did actually kill the British Empire? a populace that grew tired of sending its money and young men abroad? or more likely, a nation that spread itself too thin while expecting its citizenry to bear the brunt of the hardship, all the while engaging in partisan politics in hopes of gaining an agenda of one upmanship over the other political party? the bullshit in Washington needs to end. call Obama an idealist if you will, but it has start somewhere.

You have to admit that the staggering loss of men and capital in two World Wars had something to do with it. Imagine what our world would be like today if the rulers of the major European powers had shown a little restraint in the spring of 1914?

Staying out of the politcal part of this, but it reminded me of a part of the story on Lincoln that was on the Sunday Morning show this week.

They showed two "life masks" that were made of Lincoln, one at the beginning and one towards the end. The difference was dramatic. At the beginning, he looked like any 40 - 50 year old person of that time. At the end, he looked OLD, emaciated, drawn, and beat.

Apparently the presidency takes its toll on a person. I guess that Obama's gray hair is the first sign of the pressure.

This one is from 1858 (after he was nominated but before the election)

This one is from 2 months before his assination in 1865

Granted the coloring on the mask doesn't help the aged look.

WWI was started because of an assassination if i remember 10th grade history. the Prussians were trying to take over the continent of Europe. i don't see the comparison Art.

i have always believed we should be in Afganistan. Iraq, not so much.

the British Empire crumbled because the countries they colonized wanted to be self-governed.

Oh yeah. Let's see. We learned so much from the French, not, we went into Vietnam. That went really well. Then we learned so much from the Russians, not, we went into Afganistan. Also not working out so good. I know we want to get Bin Laden and all the Taliban terrorists and all. But the effort required to get them in such a desolate area may not be worth the cost. Most certainly not now. Does it mean we give up on fighting terrorism. Of course not.

As for Iraq. Well we stuck our nose in and in true form we'll be stuck there for too damned long. War usually gears up a countries economy building that big green/grey machinery. It's not doing much for ours. Time to pull out. I find the concept of Peace and the Middle East to be an oxymoron.

I agree 100%. There is some ring of truth in what your Brit friend said. We don't need to stick our noses in everything in the world. We really need to clean up our own backyard first.

I agree 100%. That will happen around the same time the USA has no deficit.

Fighting these people (I know I'm risking a stereotype by saying that) is a tough concept. When you threaten to take someone's life and they see dying as a good thing what else can you do?
