I am not touching this one with a 10 foot pole. Racing season REALLY needs to start.

Not to nitpick -- well, ok, the opposite of that -- but WWI started because of an assassination just like the US Civil War started because of an arms shipment to a fort.

What's all this fuss about term limits anyway? There already were term limits, you limit someone's term by voting the bastard out. As far as I can tell the only people who scream for term limits are people who want to step into a position held by someone better at the job than they would be.

Everyone's a Keynesian now for one simple reason: it says government can spend its way out of a recession. Therefore it looks like government is doing something to fix things, even if all they're really doing is making the recession deeper and longer. It doesn't matter if it works or not providing they look like they're doing something, and when it doesn't work they can just blame it on the banks or deregulation or the Chinese or Alien Space Bats or something. Or better yet, they can say things would have been much worse if they hadn't messed with it.

The British stepped out of their Empire when it was clear colonialism was at an end. They did a pretty good job at it too. Take a look at the fate of the former British colonies versus the former French. The British have things like the world's largest democracy, while the French have things like Vietnam. Zimbabwe is a special case, because it declared unilateral independence instead of going through a proper process -- interestingly enough, the only other country to do that to Britain was the USA.

The problem with the US is having started their system of government 700 years later than the British, they're 700 years behind in foreign policy. So they're pretending it's the 1300s and looking to send troops on crusades.

Seriously!

"Test and Tune" is going to be a hoot! Not to mention the day before is Daylight Saving Time. Anyone else anxious to get back on the mountain bike trail again?

OK, nobody wants to delve into the causes of WWI on this forum, though you have to admit, it would make for a fascinating lunchtime discussion at an autocross this summer. :)

On the matter of Lincoln's aging, certainly the stresses of the office during that time took their toll, but it's also thought that he suffered from an auto-immune disease such as scleroderma.

My bad, on a re-read, it does come out as an unintended pun.

Surely the massive content of this huge social central planning bill will be fully presented to the American people rather than just the doom and gloom rhetoric? (obviously, sadly, being facetious) The more I try to look at what exactly is in this "bill", the more unbelievable it becomes.

One example:
http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601039&refer=columnist_mccaughey&sid=aLzfDxfbwhzs

I sure wish the new Administration had crafted its own plan with truly multi-party, multi-discipline input as opposed to allowing the House to just slap together every big government social engineering desire they've had since the 2006 election. There's a reason that Congress over the past 2 years has received the lowest approval ratings in history...the only problem is they could care less. Sure would be nice to be able to evict the entire place and start fresh.

Imagine if this bill was done in a democratic society like Switzerland where everyone votes on measures like this one...no chance it would pass. There is no way more than 50% of Americans would vote for this thing assuming they truly educate themselves about the content and planned outcome. :(

This might just be me, but I suspect that it isn't.

Please put an end to your political rantings on this forum. I won't bother to name names, but you all know who you are.

Seriously. It's gotten to where when I see certain names on the page, my first reaction is "God, here we go again." And my suspicions are confirmed more often than you think. I don't know what's the matter with Casto, he should be just locking them all, or deleting them altogether, but he isn't, so you're getting away with it.

Please stop.

Eh, the title of this thread should have tipped you off to that. This is the "lounge", let them rant if they keep it civil, I for one enjoy reading it. If they start crapping up threads in tech talk or the autocross forum called "tire pressures for concrete" or "Sanford Autocross" with political stuff, I can see the complaint but "Hope y'all republicans is happy" in the lounge I see as fair game.

But Brice, "just don't click on the link" doesn't really work.

Imagine it this way. You and I are in a big group of people at an autocross, talking about tire pressures or some other car thing. In walks somebody with "I hope y'all Republicans are happy." My response is to either ask them to leave, or leave myself.

What I'm asking people to stop doing isn't an uncommon thing. It's a pretty widely held notion that you don't talk about politics (or religion) in large circles. It's not polite. What I'm asking isn't a big ask, it's sort of a widely held notion.

I'm pretty sure it's a club policy that political rantings have no place on this forum. I won't swear to it, but if it isn't, I'm an officer, and I'm going to try to get it in print. I'll be happy to be told no - it's a club, not a dictatorship - but I'm gonna put the effort in to see if I can stop people doing it. If the club decides all this political diatribe stuff is the way they want to go, I probably won't try and talk them out of it - I'll just leave. There's another club right down the highway, maybe they don't do this stuff.

So yeah - I feel pretty strongly about this. You can try and talk me out of it, but my suggestion is to not waste your time. You're not going to convince me.
