Chuck, Heirloom pieces do not have to be Rolex or Cartier. To me a heirloom piece simply has to be of timeless design and of quality construction with a proven movement (no quartz). Take Ball for example. Quality pieces that will last generations. They currently have a discontinued (or no longer being manufactured...whatever the industry term is) Fireman 40mm and 43MM piece that is still at ADs and getting scarcer. Ball may not be high end (I think their offerings are in the 1k to 12k range) but they are heirloom quality. I also once saw a TAG in St Thomas that I could not find in the states.

You are obviously a connoisseur of certain watches, and probably can distinguish a genuine article from a fake (something I certainly could not do especially after seeing thousands of passable fakes selling for 5.00 each on the street markets in Bangkok), and/or are well enough off to absorb a 1-12K mistake, my advice was aimed at a first time cruiser who can get caught up in the moment or believes my forementioned scams and misinformation. Sorry if that advice rubbed you the wrong way, I appologize, and will now be on my way.

Chuck, no need to aoplogize. Your input covered all the bases whereas mine was assumption based :) Besides, after getting the red spinels from you I know you are the GEM man.
