Athough it's waaay better now, mid-morning was a nightmare. RWD and old ASX'es (albeit, they could have been summer tires) don't make a great combination.

Taking my wife to work in Cary was pretty scary this morning and this photo is a great reminder to drive safe and leave extra distance. When you are driving a less than an ideal snow vehicle, it's amazing how quickly you remember where the hills are.

OUCH! & I hope this isn't a fellow Tarheeler...

get the f*** outta here. some oblivious moron tried to drive a 997 vert to work today? i hope someone steals his wheels. actually, my guess would be that Svelte Juan was leaving the DollHouse late and ooops there you go.

only thing i drove today was my tractor. 8)

Given how much snow is on the roof of that car, it looks like it was dumped in the ditch pretty early in the event.

I once drove my 996TT in a snow storm to my house in Blowing Rock. Bad mojo. I thought I would beat the storm to the house. Wrong. Got stuck in stop and roll traffic right at the top of the mountain on 421 (where the parkway crosses) thanks to the snow moving in from the other direction in buckets. Started sliding around shortly after. Almost died several times shortly after that. This was 2003, I believe. I was in ABS so much it wasn't even funny. Just think about touching the brake and it was ABS city. Those cars are AWD, but there was little ability to go, either.

To this day I have no idea how I didn't hit something other than dumb luck. Especially the stoplight at 105 and 321...I was coming down the hill to the light and had the light not changed in my favor so the stopped traffic got moving, I'd have had no chance. And I was *crawling* over the top of the hill. Big tires and low weight just have no chance in that stuff.

Not to argue, but that orange sticker could have appeared two minutes before Matt took that picture. :D

Yeah regarding the ASX's, I have a rwd Volvo with them. They were ok, but not quite as good as I would have liked.

996TT would be fine with real snow tires. Summer performance tires have a high glass transition temperature, so in anything under 40F they can be nasty and only becoming more and more worthless as temperatures drop toward and below freezing. Any car on summer performance tires is profoundly dangerous at low temps...often learned the hard way by many. :?

But who in NC is gonna get winter tires for a 996TT?

Well, if you're going to drive it in winter conditions...

i think we can honestly say that the driver of the stranded P-car in Matt's picture was not expecting Darwin to intervene. hmmn, coincidence?

or better yet, maybe Dakota from the DollHouse didn't know the car wouldn't go in the snow. it is AWD afterall.
