Just saw this on Autoblog.

Apparently, 2009 will be the last production year for S2000, and Honda has canceled the development plans for the successor car.

Well, it's had an unusually long model run by Honda standards. Usually, they refresh products every four years. AP1/AP2 discussions aside, 9 years is a *long* time for Honda to build a model. The only one that went longer was the Acura NSX.

I wasn't thrilled about the concepts I've seen of the replacement anyway. V6? Mild hybrid system?!?!? Sure, they would be fine cars, but it wouldn't be the same. It needs that high-winding 4 cylinder motor to be an "S" roadster. The S600 and S800 were motorcycle-powered, chain-driven little 7/8 scale things.

I *might* trade mine in on a 2009 at the end of the year, for no other reason than to have the newest, lowest mileage car possible. And I want a blue one.

Guess it's just me converting from a Miata, which is in its 20th production year. Oh well. Still kinda sad for me, because I just started liking these cars, to see them phased out.

Suzuka Blue or the darker one? I saw a beautiful blue (darker version similar to Avus Blue on the bimmers) AP2 in Charlotte. I never considered having another blue car but it was pretty sweet looking.

I'm not to keen on the Laguna (?) blue on the CR's though.

If anything big goes south on my E46, I think the most logical replacement would be a low mileage AP2 Berlina. They are plumeting in price as most cars are, even at dealers.

If I didn't have a need for a backseat I would have been all over a s2000. 10 years is a pretty good run though.

I wonder if Honda is being pro-active or if this is the tip of the ice-burg and it's too late.

What you saw was Laguna, which is the one I want. The CR blue is called Apex Blue. God, I am such a nerd.

Honestly, it's pretty unlikely that I'd trade mine in. I'm, uh, sort of attached to it.

I almost bought a Laguna Blue one but Autopark Honda was being a PITA about it. They had it on the lot for 6 months and wanted 2k more for it than I got mine for at Vann York Honda which had only had my car on the lot one month. I got my second color choice (silver with red interior) so I am happy. There is not a day that goes by that I don't love my car. I am amazed I have become so attached to it in such a short amount of time.

Edit: As for the S2k replacement I just assumed Honda would do a more mainstream roadster to compete with the Miata.

Seems like to me that Mazda doesn't sell enough Miatas to be worth competing in that segment with if that's all you want to go after. *shrug* Sure, it's a fine sized market for a smaller company like Mazda, though...

Pretty weak, compared to the 26 year (1979-2004) run for the Fox body Mustangs. It's almost a shame that GM could never mount a serious sales challenge to the Mustang during those years, or Ford might have improved the Mustang more sooner.

26 years and the 04 is as good as it ever got?
