Ok. Has anyone bought the headlight grease at the parts store counter? They push it every time I pick up a headlight bulb.
Dielectric grease? I only use it on spark plugs. I'd imagine if you had faulty gaskets and a lot of moisture surrounding bulbs that it would protect against it. But I haven't bought it for head/tail/signal light bulbs.
I use it on bulbs. Not all systems stay perfectly sealed. Moisture gets in. Then the bulb rusts in the socket. Makes them a pain to get out and you have to clean up the corrosion. Some cars came with all the electric connections with dielectric in them too. My sons old 84 Chrysler has it in every connection on the car. There is no corrosion in any connection 25 years later.
Matt don't buy the cheesy little packet at the counter. You can get it in a can and it will last you for years.
GM recommended way to treat door seals, hood and trunk seals. Their product for that is dielectric grease with a different name. Just put some on your finger and work it into the rubber. They won't dry rot over time with that on it.
To each his own.
