First time I heard that album I was at a party in Richmond VA with a bunch of friends, the guy throwing the party had it playing over and over again- and I was amazed at how hard it rocked....

Aerosmith's 1972 Release "Aersomith"

The new G N F'in R is kinda good in my opinion, although Axle does have a way of scattering talented band members.

On another note, I just heard that "the dead" are reforming!!! Even if you don't like the music, go to a show, you won't regret it.

Merry Christmas

Maybe not "finer," but sure - there are loads of them. All good in their own ways. Just a handful, from oldest to newest:

Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin
REM - Murmur
Smashing Pumpkins - Gish
Weezer - Weezer (a.k.a. "The Blue Album")
The Killers - Hot Fuss <-- a real favorite of mine

Wow, I can't believe you said that. Boston is my all-time favorite band. I like GNR I guess, but Axel has zero vocal ability IMO, kind of like Hendrix, but at least Jimi could play a guitar.

Its not that Boston is my favorite band but the sound and texture on that Album had NEVER been done before.

It was also their demise, they never found that sound again.

Jane's Addiction - Nothing Shocking (although technically not their first album, it's their first studio release).

Black Sabbath's first album comes to mind as it basically invented a genre of music. Not a whole lot of albums do that, especially not first albums. The only other "first" that comes to mind is Miles Davis' 'Round About Midnight .

I had a friend in college who once stood on the bar during "More than a Feeling" and proclaimed that "Boston was playing in heaven." and this cat was no preacher.

Yes Boston was "corporate" the the story of how that album was done makes it even better. No wonder VK likes, done in a basement with one guy doing all the work, remind you of anyone? It is kind of in a catagory of its own. The Aerosmith nod is also very good.
