I didn't know that the lounge was a political forum??

Congrats to Obama. Now lets see if he can uphold all those wacky promises that are made on the campaign trail.

Most, nay, no candidate can do that.

Very thoughtful and heartfelt Pete!

I don't think Pete's post was particularly political, the die is already cast, just a wish for sucess in bringing a better tomorrow.

Wow... I like the parallelism Pete.

Unfortunately the battle towards a healthy nation has just begun but I feel confident with a new beginning.

Your sig is right; unity is synergy.

Great post.
I am apprehensive and optimistic about Obama. At least he has both good points and bad points about him.... the past few elections have just been about who had the least number of bad points.

Truer words haven't been spoken. It's more patriotic to vote FOR instead of AGAINST.

I think maybe Peter is just sharing an introspection with his friends that has a little broader scope than what we've gotten use to over the last few months. Thanks Peter.

OK, apparently I touched a little bit of a nerve.

Pete, I'm sorry to have sounded like I was criticizing you. I wasn't, but it is a rare day that we discus politics on the THSCC forums as it usually ends up with people yelling and screaming at each other and the thread being locked.

As for Obama. We saw history last night. I was not a fan of either candidate. I think they both have their strong points and their weak points. I feel that the weak points out weigh the strong points on both candidates. I have to say that I debated with myself yesterday before filling in the circle. It was actually the toughest decision I have made in an election.

I will not say who I voted for. Not to anyone. My wife doesn't even know who I voted for.

On interesting tidbit that I saw this morning. While Obama won 338 to McCain's 162 electoral votes, the popular vote was much tighter, 63,249,576 (53%) to 55,900,534 (46%).

I sincerely hope that Obama is able to bring this country together again. We need a good leader, not just a good speaker, who can bring this country back to the greatness that it once was.

Technically there are no rules here on the forum against political discussions. However we have historically not had many of them. And when they do pop up, they sometimes get locked due to people running afoul of other forum rules. This has given the general impression that political talk doesn't belong here.

My personal opinion is that this forum is not the place for general political discussion that is unrelated to motorsports in some way.

After the 2008 campaign dust settles (a few months?), I am thinking about putting forward two proposed forum rule changes.

1. No political or religious discussions.
2. No hijacking of “For Sale” threads.

Not to be a smart-ass, but are you going to define what constitutes politics and religion? It is a pretty slippery slope you are heading down. No one forces and individual to open any thread.

Government loans to the auto industry or Japanese subsidizing their auto manufactures is a combination of auto related and politics. WWJD..What Would Jesus Drive? Would that be religious or car related? Personally, not sure what he would drive though.
