Los Angeles Auto Show: 2009 Nissan 370Z Coupe

LOS ANGELES — Nissan today pulled the covers back on its redesigned 2009 370Z Coupe, which formally debuts November 19 at the 2008 Los Angeles Auto Show.

Inside Line brought you details of the sixth-generation Z-car nearly two weeks ago, including our educated guess that the new, shorter Z will share its 3.7-liter VQ engine and seven-speed automatic transmission with the latest incarnations of the Infiniti G37 coupe and sedan.

Although we've been privy to several rounds of spy photos, this is the first official look at the 370Z's uncamouflaged sheet metal, plus production-ready cabin.

The architecture of the interior is familiar, as the steering wheel is mounted on a movable pod and there are three small instruments on top of the dash, but the cheap, hard plastic of the current Z-car has mercifully disappeared.

This is the first significant overhaul of the Z since the fifth-generation model was introduced in 2003. U.S. sales begin in early 2009, and a 370Z convertible is also expected for the 2010 model year.

Inside Line says: A full list of the 370Z's final production specs will be revealed at the L.A. show.

Looks good to me, then again I think the GT-R is one of the hottest cars too.

I really am digging the cinnamon interior.

Nissan = dumb in my book.

Make it about 1000 pounds lighter and they might have something to get me excited. Until then, I'll pass.

Oh, and they need to fire their lead designer. That car is as ugly as the GTR. Sorry Matt!!! :D

this version is 200 lbs lighter than the 08 model. So at 3144 lbs its fairly light by today's standard and heading in the right direction Paired with it's 338 HP and 270 lb/ft it should move pretty well.

1000 lbs lighter would make it elise light, and the elise is a lot smaller

Hope they fixed all the brake issues that seem to plague the current cars. Every event I see them at there is at least one that has a burst hose or some other braking malady.

The earlier 03-04 models where severly under braked unless you had the Brembos. The 06 and newers are much better and the 09's will all have brembos of some sort.

Have they done anything to make the hatchback load area actually capable of carrying stuff . . . tires would be nice.

I was spoiled with my 260Z which would carry 4 race tires/wheels with spare street tire or 4 street autocross tires/wheels with one in the spare tire well. Of course, tires/wheels were rather small in those days . . .

Yeah the integral rear strut brace killed the utility of the hatch. Look forward to seeing one on track.

The fangs in the front bumper look really, really stupid. Circa-1991 body kit stupid.

It's not fangs, it's an underbite.
