I agree Cline...your daughter was quite fortunate. That's a pretty good testimony on the crash-worthiness of a MINI. I'm glad she's OK.

Ouch! BMW makes a great car.... We've all probably been close to relaxing too much behind the wheel after a long day. Thankfully she wasn't hurt too badly. I recall a personal accident where modern design saved my family and the first words after we realized that everybody was fine were... "I want another car just like this one."

It then was caught in the cables (I think this was a very good thing) and slid down them knocking down the little metal posts.

We are are glad she is OK Cline, and no offense, but I think those cables saved her life, and not because she was in a Mini. The unfortunate thing is as good as they (the cables) are, they only work when they are in place. The NCDOT seems to be in no hurry to fix them once they have done their job by catching a car. I'm sure Ryan can attest to that fact as well. My guess is it could be as long as 6 months before the section your daughter took down is replaced.

Glad she is ok Cline. The rest of the story is all academic to me. As long as my kid walks away from an accident. That is all that counts.

You can look at NHTSA data for crash worthiness of a car. Not a single incident.

i've seen many cars stuck in the cables while driving on 264 the past few years and every time is see one i think, damn that would have been nasty if the dividers were not here. glad everything turned out ok. I'm surprised we don't have a mini dealership in Grenville just for you.

I actually had a friend in the car business want to pursue that with me, I reconized that would be like an alcoholic starting a bar.

I learned that when my dad was in the car business in the 70's. His partner would get excited about a car and then buy a bunch of them. ONe time it was AMC Pacers then it was Renault Le Cars. They weren't in business long.

Seems like a Mini Clubman would be a better car for a kid... Time to try out a new mini.

Actually the head is the same on all of them I believe. Thought about seeing about getting the salvage on this one but it is so destroyed I don't think I want to mess with it.

Good thing she is sponsored by an insurance agency! Glad she walked away.

AFA salvage, doesn't look like there is likely much damage to the drive train, looks to be mostly the outside sheetmetal, the wires taking up most of the energy.
