I figured by sharing this to EVERYONE my ego may recover sooner.. Either that or I just opened myself up to a world of nick names and teasing.... I've got thick skin.... here goes

Yesterday I took friend to a VIR club day to show him the in's and outs of a track day, in efforts to get him interested. I met a friend who is a club member, and has been since the track re opened, around noon and stepped into his freshly painted E36 for a ride along, as he got punted in a spring race and stuck the car into the tire wall.

It was my first ride along on North Course. I settled in nicely amazed at the grip and consistency of my friend, who, keep in mind had just spent close to 20k getting the car back together.

I bet you know where this is going....

With about 4 minutes left in the session, my world started to slip away, saliva started to flood my mouth.... I tried to get him to pit in (he thought it was an atta boy for his hog pen exit... NOPE

It was all over.... So I come into the pits and my friend sees me from a far not noticing that his tour guide had made a complete ASS of himself. I had to take a ride to Danville to get his rig cleaned up for his last session, how friggin embarrassing.

Please tell me I'm not the first, I wonder if it’s the constant elevation changes of North Course that got me, because that’s the first time I have had this problem. Years down the road I'd like to instruct... and I mean years... I hope this is something that I can move past...

Been there, done that. But have never yacked in an instructors car.

I get so motion sick, that I get sick with ME driving.

There are lots of things to try Diet, bands, pills and patches. Search for a thread in the Track forum, we had a conversation about this a year or so ago.

I've had an instructor get sick in my car. The good news, is that my replacement instructor was much better.

I've felt pretty queasy after some ride-alongs.

Riding is much harder on the stomach than driving. Donna even turned green on the tail of the dragon while riding. We also have had a lot of experience with motion sickness when scuba diving.
The scopilemine (sp?) patches work well without making you drowsy. They were off the market for a couple years due to a manufacturing problem, not a problem with the med itself, but are now available again.

I thought he was gonna stuff it in the tires again....

Don't feel bad... we've had our share of those at our events. Who was it riding with Peter that one time at South Course?

I got really woozy at a Intermediate School we held a few years back. It happens to a lot of us. At least with autocross, the ride is over quick. On track, I probably would have hurled myself. ;) - AB

no but that's what my group of "friends" are now calling me.

I'm sure that instructors will be linning up when they see my name at the next Tarheel VIR HPDE

Don't worry though cause my buddy who works for the airlines is getting me some sick bags as a joke...

I think it's one of those things that you don't know is going to happen to you until the first time it happens. Obviously, it sucks for the guy who owns the car you got sick in, but that's an easy enough thing to put right.

VIR's elevation change (and, in my opinion, the speed of the place) is famous for bringing motion sickness out of people. I know of at least one instructor who is fine at Roebling - which is pretty much flat - but bring him to VIR, and he's good for *maybe* one session.

I also had a student, years ago, who I took for a ride in the old Integra GS-R. He was wearing one of those patches, and was convinced that he'd be fine. He wasn't. He didn't get sick in my car, but he looked pretty rough for the rest of the day.

At least you didn't pay for the ride... When I was at the Nurburgring a few weeks ago you can pay ( 270eu ) to have a ride, one lap, in the Zakspeed Viper.
Guess what, on one of my lap with the TT almost at the end, pass the bridge on the long straight, I saw the Viper park on the side of the track with the passenger outside doing is thing.

Ralph...er.. Jake -- are you sure it wasn't the odor of burning power steering fluid that made you sick?

Oh, sorry, I was thinking of Whitney's E36 at Laurinburg. :P

I'm looking into a $50.00 Dry Cleaning gift certificate to get his suit cleaned. He didn't notice until exiting 3, and coming out of 1 there was some...um... G force slideage  on his side.

He's got ammo until one of our other friends screws up, but thats all part of the game.

i made joel sick in my se-r once. it was at south course, when my car was mostly stock still... as many know, stock se-r's lean alot, alot. south course has lotsa hills and crests. like a rally course or roller coaster, joel was having a rough weekend, and my car was soft.. poor combination i think,
happened at south bend, he said pull off, so i did.. on to soft grass, and my car was quite hot, so steam went everywhere.. i thought something broke.. that is why he told me to pull off.. oh no.. no i was not that lucky, as you can imagine it was not pretty, cause i had my communicator on.. i had to wash her off on monday, luckily it was not heavily tatoo'ed. though do not feel alone.
