Anyone know of a place to get hardware like this. Smaller stuff mostly, heim joints that would thread onto rod and would take a 12-14mm bolt through them. Looking for a local place in anyone knows of one.

Good luck, particularly on the metric stuff. I've been trough this before, and if you find a good source, please let me know. I've always ended up doing mail order.

That said, I suspect Grainger would have something (maybe not metric). There is one in Raleigh:

Branch: 637
4820 SIGNETT DRIVE
RALEIGH, NC 27616
Phone: 919/790-0888
Fax: (919)850-9423
Branch Hours: 8:00am - 5:00pm

Aside from that, depending on your needs, www.bakerprecision.com, www.racerpartswholesale.com, www.summitracing.com, etc.

Another good (pretty good with metric too) source is McMaster Carr.

FYI a GREAT source for racing parts and information is the Pegasus Catalog. There is even a full online version if you have broadband. Lots of detailed information on AN hardware and some info on rod ends and spherical bearings.

Bringing this topic back up hoping someone can help...

Before I dive into all of these sources, does anyone know specifically of a source for very SHORT heim links? My swaybar is at a bad angle with the current Heim link at it's shortest length... it's about 3-4" tall screwed completely together, and I need to find something about 2" long.

The threaded portion is about 2" long and the "receptacle" is about 2" long. Just looking for something with shorter threads.

That wasn't very clear. Maybe I'll go snap a picture.

They don't have any short links either, but thanks for wasting my time...

Mike,

A picture might help. Are you using two rod ends (heim joints) with a threaded rod in between? If so, how about using one male and one female rod end using the male as the "rod"? Use one or two jam nuts to lock them.

Mike,

Another solution is hacksaw followed by tap/die for thread cleaning. :D

I checked a few race catalogs with no luck. Alternately, you could fab a link using spherical bearings.

Would "high misalignment" rod ends help or are you trying to get the bar motion ratio closer to 1:1 by straightening the link?

A picture would help.

I am using a male into female.

Trying to get the motion ratio closer. The mounting point and bar end are aligned pretty well (although it's a bit off since it is set on the "full soft" hole)

I considered the hacksaw approach. Not sure how deep the threads are in the female side.

Mike,

The female body is probably threaded the full depth of the hole. Aurora had CAD drawings on their web site. I haven't checked them on the assumption I would need CAD software to view them. Maybe a sawed off high strength mating pair would be just what you need.

Dick:

Visio has the ability to accept many standard format CAD (Autocad) drawing for viewing.

Mike:

You could play here and design what you need:

http://www.emachineshop.com/

Pretty cool stuff, just pricey when everything you want is quantity "1".

Mike,

I "assume" you know this, but if the link to bar angle is changed closer to 90 degrees the bar's wheel rate will be higher (assuming the kind of bar/link configurations that I'm familiar with). If you are at full soft already . . . :D

Also, depending on what the current angles do, the compression side of the car may have a decreasing bar wheel rate if the angle closes up rapidly. I don't know if the movement on the other side of the car would be enough to counteract the compression side.

....or if you have a .dwg file send it to me and I can convert it to a PDF so you can read it. I use AutoCAD for a living.
