The official time is impressive considering the driver was a GM engineer and not a hired Hot shoe.

It will be interesting to see this car stacks up against the new Viper ACR.

Awesome video. I love the overlaid info and track map.

Who am I to critique... but I was nervous at the amount of steering input at the higher speeds, but then I drive a MINI.
Is that amount of back and forth movement normal at 100+?

Just found out a little more about Mr. Mero.

He is a suspension engineer that has been with GM for quite a while. He was the lead engineer in the development of the magnetic ride control system.

I got to see 5 of these toys when I was at VIR a few weeks ago. Unfortunately I didn't get one of the drivers as my student. I just got the slow C6 Z06 ones... ;-)

Come up behind one coming into Oak Tree then just watch it disappear into the distance down the back straight... I had nothing for it. Showing up to an event with 405hp and being the low man on the scale is just wrong...

Btw, GM is mandating a driving school for any order for a ZR1. So trophy wife/husband/child will not get out of the dealership loose with one of these too easily.

i think the torque has more to do with the steering input actually. he was sawing at that wheel wasn't he. a pitch and catch man obviously.

You should watch it if you are curious enough to post.

The ZR-1 has a faster lap. But the video is interesting to watch how the cars enter and exit differently and how they gain and lose time on each section.

Holy crap that kink at the end of the long straight (at about 6:40) has some pucker factor. I'd lift too!

I had the ZR-1 ahead by five seconds at the bridge, and in looking at both the vette and the GTR, The Nissan had more steering input than the vette

I was thinking the same about lifting. At first I thought the vette decelerated due to the hill but I don't think that's the case.

Not to take anything away fromt the Blue Devil, but did anyone else think the GTR driver looked a little smoother? Maybe it's just the due to the F1 shifters.

Both the ZR1 and GTR laps are impressive. Good job GM and Nissan.

I have seen some comments from experience "ringers" that say both drivers could have turned faster laps. The comments basically say that the drivers take odd lines in a few places that cost them time. With the odd lines probably being a result of a lack of Nurburgring experience. Even to my untrained eye it looks like in some places shortly after Karousel that the ZR1 driver starts to drive the middle of the track here and there in some turns. I think the GTR makes up some time between Karousel and Pflanzgarten because of this. Granted, you can't expect to do every turn correctly on a long course like this over a single lap.
