I've meant to chime in hear earlier, and I hate to come across as a fanboi, but you would be a fool not to seriously consider the C5Z. Its not an easy car to drive, but endlessly entertaining. I was never once bored in it. It does everything very well, but it is hard to manage all that power on an autocross course. However the challenge of that is much of the appeal and when you do get a chance to press the loud pedal to the floor on course its simply unreal. Of course maybe I'm just a power junkie? The only realistic reason that I could see you not going with a Z06 is that it will probably be harder to finish in the trophies at the national level events than most of your other options, especially at first. But you would be very hard pressed to have as much fun trying.

And now for something completely different!

I know you want a cool street car but if you want something long term autocrosser why not buy a cheaper street car and spend about 20K on a C-mod car??

If not that then I say pick a Porsche. They are all cool so it don't matter which one.

Well, I drove an Elise the other day. Waycool, but, uh, that's not daily driver material. The Elise "hard to get into" is in a whole different league from all other small/low cars "hard to get into." And that was with the roof off. Plus, while that 4 cyl is plenty of motor for that tiny car, I really don't like the lack of torque.

Gonna test out a Z06 at Toledo this weekend...running Chris Hammond's 04 SS car in SM2.

C5 Z06 and Shelby GT would top my list right now...at least based on current classes...July Fastrack will be interesting...

might i just add this: 2004 C5 Z06 is by far the finest version of the breed. a car for the ages. rock on .
