Hmmm, I dont why the link didnt work the first time, but this one seems to work.

Its a crank inspired by a spirograph. Cool stuff!

It's quite different. What you show on from the Prius is basically the way that the power is delivered to the transmission and the generator.

Trying not to get too technical...

It is kind of hard to explain the way that the Crankshaft works without moving diagrams or models, but lets see if I can find some web resources...

Alright, cool found something with motion:

Alright, looking at the diagram O is the crankshaft on a standard piston engine. N is the connecting rod. What this guy has designed is a crankshaft that allows the connecting rod to be able to go straight up and down.

Hopefully this clears it up a little bit.
