Ladies and Gentlemen, I just received notification that team DoriftoDogs has been accepted for the July 24 Hrs of Lemons event at CMP.

Team DoriftoDogs is an all THSCC effort featuring:
Vincent Keene
Kendt Eklund
Walter Houston
Steve Remchak
Mark Cooper
Les Davis as Head Mechanic
and me...as your humble Team Captain

Obviously, with the recent death at the Altamonte CA event, there's a bit of a shadow cast over the LeMons events. The team pondered it for a couple of days, but decided to move forward with our entry.

Visit our website blog for details as we move continue to prep our car - http://www.doriftodogs.com

I know there are a couple of other THSCC members that have entries pending. Best of luck to all of you!

I wasn't aware that it was a difficult event to get into. Congrats guys.

Are they running the long course or one of the short courses?

Congrats! One word of advice, y'all had better get into decent physical shape before this event.

It is the same time of the year that I took my comp license school at VIR. The outside temp was about 95 degrees. It was brutal doing a 60 minute race session at the end of a 10 hour day.

Even going from the normal 25 minute race session to a 40 minute race session at CMP took some mental adapting. At the 20-25 minute mark, my lap times increased and I remember having to talk myself back into focusing. After a couple of laps, I was back to turning decent laps.

I think the first cars to drop out will be the ones who are in the mindset of "let's hurry and get to the front". This event is an enduro...not a sprint, and if we finish we will have achieved our goal.

You're right though, July at CMP, in a hot car and fire suit will be brutual. Our driver swaps may happen more often than we originally planned.

Wish us luck!

Over 90 teams applied, but not all will be accepted AFAIK.

We are running the "West Course" which is shorter and more spectator friendly.

Vincent and the others, just a suggestion. Don't cheap out on the fire suit. You'll hate a good one a lot less on a hot day. And if the budget and rules allow for it, a cool suit would probably be a good idea.

Thanks for reminding me Jim and Karl. It's going to be brutal just standing in the sun...

I'm going to add "brainstorm driver cooling" to our to do list. We'll have to get creative. I know there are some creative "cool suit" solutions that folks have come up with that are way cheaper than a cool suit setup.

Ice filled athletic supporters? Kind of goes with the sexual devient theme you had on your entry form.

I would suggest nomex underwear, a couple of pair. I like having it get sweaty and not my suit. But that is my preference.

As for cheap cool suit options, you can pick up EBIce setups for under $50 on eBay. Those will plug into a cool shirt which cost $150. So for about $200 you can have it set up.

One word of warning, try out the cool shirt before you jump into the car for the race. A friend of mine hooked his up prior to practice at CMP. The ice cold water was actually painful at first. He did adapt to it after a while.
