What is the plans with the car(s) now that the event is over? Use them next year?
Can't speak for the Dogs, but based on the condition of their car at the end of the race, I would bet that they are going to find some sort of purpose for it.
As for our car, the
Malt Liquor Tech 40 oz BMW Sponsored by Billy Dee Williams and Schlitz Malt Liquor is likely to make another Lemons appearance. We definitely have some work to do on her, probably a "new" engine since the current one was running so poorly at the end of the race, and I think it was almost out of oil too- so that can't be good. Also, it ran all day Saturday on 5 cyls due to a stuck open injector- so I imagine that the #6 cylinder is cranking out about 10 psi compression due to all the gasoline washing down that cylinder. The driveshaft is shot, and at least one of the rear wheel bearings made a terrible growling noise from the start of the race, and I think the diff and/or the CV joints in the rear axles are shot too. Oh, and the brakes are FUBAR'ed as well.
But, as they said about Steve Austin- we've got the technology....we can make it better than it was, better.....stronger.....faster....... duh duh duh.......duh duh duh duh duh duh................
We're seriously considering campaigning a second car, the idea being that one car would be the "serious" car and one would be the "fun" car....... We have been talking strategy and have some ideas that would have saved us a ton of time in the pits and likely moved us up at least a couple of positions in the final standings- so it's worth a shot.
Our philosophy was to have fun and get everyone some seat time, but when we found ourselves in 2nd place on Saturday, we had to take it a little bit more seriously and start thinking up some sort of strategy (we honestly had none before that). It's gonna be hard to top this weekend, but we're willing to try.
Richard- sign on to the Lemons Yahoogroup and scan through some of the past messages there. Alot of those guys have been in your same position, and many of them have spelled out what running the race sost them- so that's useful info for anyone preparing a car, or thinking about it.
I'll be glad to give you a rundown of our teams expenses if you like, shoot me an email or PM. But we did it on the CHEAP and it was still not necessarily cheap.
