Sally's got the 4x4 at work (sucks to be a doctor) so I'm stuck at home, looks like it's time to fire up the garage heater and work on the car. New differential is going in today, probably do a few misc. engine building chores too (gap new piston rings, etc).

Too cold to rebuild carbs outside (need finger dexterity). Maybe I need to do that on the kitchen counter (just make sure to put plugs in the drains...).

Hope yall are all warm and safe!

Scott

In my world, the "snow day" is dead. I have 4 meetings today. They all have call in numbers - even the ones hosted by Raleigh people haven't been cancelled.

Sometimes laptops, high speed internet, and VPNs are bad :(

Snow day what? I had to get a ride to work today. The only other option was to take a vacation day. :(

I know what you mean Joel. I could stay home and burn a vacation day or come in to work. Yes it took me 30 minutes to dig the cars out, but I couldn't take another whole inside-the-house-day like yesterday.

My normal 20 minute commute took about an hour, but I'm here at work safe and sound...and WARM!

Besides my vacation days should be better spent like on February 13th getting ready for VIR. :woo:

I'm in the same boat w/ Whitney. I can do 99% of my job from my home office, so I'm basking in the glow of my monitor all day. I'm actually busy... :x

I gotta agree with Mike. Maybe if the power goes off? The the DSL modem will die, then back to dialup until the laptop batteries wind down ... then we can try that new sled ...

Sorry guys. Just when you thought my job couldn't get any better... Can't work in the lab from home (and if I was working in the lab at home, I'd be a lot richer ;)). Our little company has a policy, "What GSK does, we do." GSK is closed, so we are closed. No vacation lost, no holiday's lost. They just closed Sally's office for the day (none of the staff could get in due to the roads or lack of child care). We are spending some free time driving other docs to and from UNC hospital.

I just finished installing a differential and axles into the old car, everything is all snug and torqued to spec. A little coffee and Baily's then I'll be ready to get back to work. The little heater (just like Diane's) is working well, only my toes got a little cold.

Even here in the South, I've decided that my dream garage will have radient floor heating (hot water lines in the slab). Imagine, the dead of winter, you are working under the car while lying on 70-75 degree concrete, kind of nice. I bet I could fall asleep like that.

Me workum too. Cable modem at home, 20" LCD screen, ultra-high-speed connection at my office (would you believe 100Mbps?), client/server development, VPN. In fact I find I'm much more productive at home than at the office. I usually try to work from home 1-2 days a week.

Since I know Mr. Allen probably didn't go to work today I'll bet I know what he's up to.

Where are pics Kevin? I know you're out "there".

Funny how we both work for the same company, and I can do almost nothing remotely. Like Scott, I work in a lab.

It's a good thing I've got Speedvision. WRC from Monte Carlo is the only saving grace I've found in daytime TV, amongst all the Extreme Makeover, Wedding Story, and other estrogen-laced stuff :shudder:

How do you like those? (both Christine) :D

And here's what Main st. in Four Oaks looked like today...

Image

Saw a lot of 1WD vehicles out there spinning their tire from a stop, but I just couldn't break traction for more than half a tire rotation for some reason. :P to the stupid people with slick tires and 1WD driving around on ice! Oh, and :stick: to the old woman peeking over the steering wheel of her 1970 Plymouth Behemoth while driving 45mph on what you see above - except out on Old School Rd (between my house & Four Oaks).

Nice pictures Kevin! We've been having fun in the Tundra all week. I have managed a couple of 4 wheel burn outs (technically 3 wheel since it's open front diff). We are runnign a 2 hour delay at work this monring, but I had to take Sally in so I'm here before 8AM.

Funny thing, I'm the *only* person here... I did a few donuts in the parking lot before settling down. I was amazed at the difference in truck handling between RWD and 4WD.

Taking Sally to UNC was entertaining. There was a stretch of Hwy 54 with several cars off. You would think that would be a sign. On the way back to RTP from the hospital there were several *more* cars off in the same stretch (take a hint and slow down!). A red BMW 325 that was off on the first pass had been joined by a delivery van (joined at the hip unfortunately). Of all the places to go off, the van driver picked the only one that would result in contact with another vehicle.

Can someone please explain to me what a "snow day is?!? I was at work at 5:00 a.m. both Monday and Tuesday. Out in the cold all day. For some reason the airlines don't stop flying just because it is cold!!!!!

BTW, all of you who get to work from home on days like today and yesterday SUCK!!!!!!!!! :D

No, I didn't drive the Mustang in the snow. Drove my old van. I don't think that the WIDE BALD tires on the Mustang would have been any good in the show and ice.

I also work for a company that has been closed Mon. and Tues. I cannot work from home since I work on other people's cars. However since the company is closed I have a choice of use vacation days or no pay. They were also closed from Xmas until Jan. 2. There goes most of my vacation. Grumble Grumble. I was out and about in the old school fashion. Rear wheel drive open diff and studed snow tires.
