For the next two weeks, History Flight, a traveling nonprofit concern, will let anyone climb the wing of a World War II-era plane, buckle him- or herself into the cockpit and turn a barrel roll over the Franklin County woods.

I REALLY want to do this. I could log it as "dual received" as all the pilots are instructors and it would be really cool to have a T-6 in my log book. I have had 2 oppurtunity to fly in a Stearman before and will say that it is definately worth the trip. Though I do think that these guys charge a little too much.

My father would have loved to see this. He was stationed at the Bainbridge, Georgia Army Air Corps flight school from 1942 to 1944. He wasn't a pilot, but made sure he earned his flight pay every month by going up with the student pilots. Said he learned pretty quickly to only go up with the more advanced students, after they had graduated to twin-engine trainers. Still, they always tried to get Sarge sick :)

My dad has flown the Texans at least two times. He is really into vintage aircraft. He has said these flights are a lot of fun and I beleive they video-tape your flight as well.

My sister lives a couple of miles from the Franklin County Airport ... we where out there yesterday and the plane was flying around late in the afternoon after the rain stopped. Considering how much fun it was to *watch* I can imagine its a blast to do.
They interviewed one of the pilots in the N&O last Friday ... they asked him if his students ever scared him. He said most of them scared themselves first ...

Make it an F4U-1 Corsair and you can sign me up. The Texan...no thanks.

Wow Vincent, you're picky.

Sure the Corsair is one of the ultimate WWII fighters and I would give non vital body parts to be able to log that time, but give me anything with a round engine or one built by Rolls Royce and I will be giggling like a school girl.

I said I was going to do this, but that was before I found out the actual schedule. The newspaper article said it was there for two weeks "starting Thursday" and the article ran last Saturday (IIRC). But in reality it started the Thursday before and only runs through this weekend. Unfortunately I'm out of town Thursday through Sunday and just can't fit it in tomorrow.

*sigh*

But I'm with Vincent on the Corsair thing. I'd give a testicle for that.

OK, so a P-51 with the Rolls Royce (doesn''t Jack Roush have one?) would not suck! The Corsair would be my first choice though.

BTW, I'm typing this live from beautiful sunny Barbados! Cruise ships rock!

Yep, Jack Roush actuall has two (Old Crow and Gentleman Jim) and he convinced Mark Martin to get one also. As a matter of fact Jack painted his CitationJet in the same scheme as his Mustangs. That is the ugliest Citation I have ever seen.

I prefer this bling (polished)version, but Jack's is indeed a beautiful machine.

Still the F4U Corsair is my favorite. I prefer the blue/white scheme, but this one is is nice too:
