If anyone's interested, there's actually a cool video that accompanies this article:

Wow, their 2002 M3 was a bit off song (perhaps from such poor clutch work as seen in that video launching it :) ) since "typical" E46 M3s run the low 13's in the 1/4 at about 105.x mph. They also paid WAY too much for the car, quoting $30,000. You would have to have a garage queen super-low mileage 2002 M3 coupled with a special buyer to get that for it. Typical selling prices for 2002 M3s right now are in the low twenties with many auctioning wholesale in the high teens. For $30k, you can easily get a 2004 and even some 2005s at this point.

If BMW had just given the 135i an LSD...

There will be a fairly well prepped 135i in DS at the DC ProSolo in a few weeks. With 19 in class, including many BMW's, Type R's, Crossfires, R32's and WRX's, it will be an interesting test of how good the car really is.

The real question is who the driver will be. Steve Snow (10th at Nationals in a 330i in 2006) is signed up in his new 128i. It should be interesting.

Bryan and I will be on 285 Hoosiers up front and and possibly 315 rears for the first time, which hopefully can help us at the launch. - AB

Good luck Aaron! Sounds like that'll be a blast.

Even with an open diff, I think the 135 should hold it's own not unlike the torquey Crossfires.

I know for a fact that Steve Snow drove a 135i at a local event in PA already so it wouldn't surprise me if he is driving the 135 in DC. I will also be on the 285 fronts but unlike in Altanta I will be on 295 rears. I feel the 315's are just too much tire for the rear but we shall find out. As you saw Aaron the 285's are holding up great on the front of the car, I guess it is that cantaleavered sidewall that makes them work so well.

That was my experience with 265/35s on the zhp -- they seemed to wear better on the front edges than narrower tires, so I was thinking about the sidewall/tread interface cantilever thing too. This makes me wonder if I should try running 285/30 A6s up front on the 8" wheels and 245/35s in the rear on the 8.5" wheels. What a crazy combination that sounds like, but it sure might help the crazy push the 330 exhibits, and I have room for 285s up front.

Chuck, I ran Doublecross with the 285's up front mounted on my 7.5"wheels and 235's (measure out to be 255) mounted on a 9 inch rim in the rear and my car was pretty loose but I managed to get it to work well enough to get 2nd place so I am hoping the 285/295 combo will be just right at DC. I got numerous comments on how I should have more than enough tire stuffed on the front of the car now.

Sounds good. My only problem is I just bought a fresh set of 245/40 BFG R1s that will last the rest of the year with two drivers, etc. The R1s are not top level for autocross, but of course wear a zillion times longer on the 330 than the A6s ever did.
