Update:
Mike Janis, a longtime close friend and the builder of both of my brother's racecar engines, is the #1 qualifier in Promod in his new for this season 1964 Pontiac Firebird at 5.986, 240.08 MPH (breaking the track record for speed). This run was only the second time the car has been run thru the full quarter mile since it was built over the off season. His was the only Promod car dipping into the 5's at the event.
Tommy D’Aprile, Port Charlotte, Fla., qualified #4 in a 1962 Chevrolet Bel Air bodied Promod, 6.050, 234.37 mph with power from a Jan-Cen Racing engine built and tuned at the event by Mike Janis.
Promods are full fiberglass replica bodied race cars running supercharged engines on Alchohol fuel or normally aspirated engines running nitrous boost. Unlike the funny cars, PM must have fixed bodies and operating doors for driver entry and egress. All must use a foot operated clutch for launch with no computerized assist.
