Nothing like failing at your own game. I was walking out of the store this morning and noticed that the passenger front tire looked low on the Tundra. Sure enough, there's a big shiny nail head staring at me.

To add insult to injury, it appears it's been there quite some time. The outer shoulder of the tire is pretty chewed up from too much hard driving on a low tire. Now I'm mad because 1) I didn't notice sooner (need to be checking pressures more frequently in the cold weather) and 2) the tire is in pretty bad shape.

So, what's a cheap bastard like me to do? Make an appointment at Hubcap Heaven to have:

1) nail removed, tire patched and plugged.
2) Spare tire (still unused) unmounted from steel wheel and mounted on alloy for daily use.
3) worn tire mounted as the spare...

What a nightmare.

Scott

or you could just do like i'm doing and drive around with the nail in the tire and be sure to check your pressure a bunch...then again, my tires are near the end of their life, so it's really not worth fixing them at this point.

Nope, not particularly. You have to remember, the factory PSI rating in the front tire is 25, it's squishy already. With 15 psi in there I really didn't notice a big difference.

265/70-16 is the tire size. Can you say baloon?

Scott

PS: Now that I think about it, it may have been squealing a bit more in the turns.

Yeah I guess I didn't think about that. I'm used to riding on fairly low profile so any small difference is strange to me.

You might have a problem if the nail is too near the sidewall. My opinion is if you can fix it, fix it. If all your tires are near the end of their usable life, put it back on the tundra, but more life insurance :P and go on with life. If the tires are closer to new, then switch it with the spare.

I put my KDs back on the car to go to the tire shop today. I didn't notice them "looking" different or anything like that. As I was driving to work I noticed that the car was really tail happy...

I have 5 psi in one of the rear tire :)

I guess the KDs have pretty stiff sidewalls, as you can't tell looking at them!
