I bought a car tonight (Friday). I have not been able to find any illuminating info on the DMV site on whether I can drive it yet. I have a bill of sale, notarized title and proof of insurance. No tag to transfer. I did find some 'suggestions' in the forum archive. Should I park the car until I get it registered? Is there a grace period with private sales?

Legally you can't drive it until you:

A- have insurance on it

and

B- have the title/registration transferred to your name

Yup, based on what the DMV told me, the only real way to drive a car back from the place you bought it from is if you do the title transfter AT the DMV, and you walk away with a new plate. With the DMV offices running less-than-bankers hours, this state makes it REAL hard to buy private party legitimately.
