Step 1: Buy a Mac.
Step 2: Edit and post.
It's just about that easy.
I think PC software like Nero is probably your best bet if you don't want to go buy a Mac (but why wouldn't you?). It walks you through the video stuff VERY easily and newer versions probably have the ability to help you post on Youtube. Posting on Youtube is pretty much as easy as going to the site, creating an account, and posting your video file. You just need to make sure it's "small enough" to go up. Needs to be under 100M or so, IIRC, in size. That means let your creation software compress the hell out of it.
This all from a guy who simply chops off the part at the beginning and the end that he doesn't need and just posts that way. But I've done a little with Nero and found it quite easy to make DVDs with.
