the Town of Cary or at least a vocal minority of its citizens are in favor of secession from Wake County Schools. while i am all for bombing Cary back into the 1950's i think i am strongly in favor of Cary establishing its own school system.

long live The County of Cary. now if they would just build a bubble over the entire thing.

it still amazes me that WCPSS allowed the Town of Cary to donate millions of dollars to the schools within its town limits.

Sounds like an excellent idea to me! The WCPSS has shown their incompetence fairly well in recent history.

I hope this passes!

Something about an attempt to force kids into a year-long program to cover up their inability to plan for growth.

only donating money to themselves is unfair. let cary melt into smelting slag.
hubcap heaven and roma's pizza are more or less the only reasons i goto cary. often, i avoid cary for the reasons of bad traffic.

"force" being the term of contention no doubt.

well hell where do i go from here? western Wake county has more new schools planned than any other area of the county. the money to build new schools comes from all of us that reside in wake county. so to take Cary's arguement further, why should we all pay for Cary's growth?

year round schools are more beneficial to the students attending and also potentially more influential in attracting stronger teacher talent. my kid is in her third year of yearround and it has shown positive results. most teachers i speak with are in favor of yearround schools.

year round schools more efficiently utilize the physical plant as they never really sit idle, occupied buildings live a healthier life.

i gots a million of them but, if anything i agree that the yearround program still has issues. the most significant being the interface of different schools when a family has kids spread among different grade levels. and high school presents challenges due to traditional sports schedules.

it chaps my ass when i see the inequity of resources countywide. the elementary schools downtown are nowhere as nice and shiny as some of the other schools in the county. and lest we forget, wake county extends to towns such as zebulon, wendell, wake forest, garner and knightdale.

and cary in its almighty rise to excellence should remember they have elementary schools such as Briarcliff elementary, which is nowhere near the diversity one would find in the likes of Greenhope or Weatherstone.

Rich lives in Apex, they are only Cary wannabes. well ok Cary wannabes live in Apex. don't get me started with that. just as termites and mold spread and consume all around themselves lowly Apex is doomed. damn shame as it used to be a nice small town.

WCPSS has tried to make some Dumb decisions here where I live in Cary. Like send all the kids in MY neighborhood to Athens Drive instead of Cary High. I live 1 Mile from Cary high School. (Athens is about 15)

A lot of places do School Districts by town, the more I have been in wake I sometimes wounder if the big county school systems is more trouble than it is worth.

we spent our wedding anniversary in Atlantic Beach this past weekend and oddly enough our waitress at dinner inquired about year round schools. seems Carteret county is also trying year round schools.

we have done work in Edgecombe, Nash and Person counties recently and i must say; we should all be thankful our kids attend school in Wake county.

Hey this is as good a time as any to ask ... I live in Cary. I have kids, one will be in Kindergarten in 2009. I am not opinionated about anything regarding the schools. Year round? Sure, I don't care. As long as Nathan goes to an elementary school fairly nearby, learns something, and comes home in one piece, I'll be more or less satisfied.

So what am I missing? I'm serious -- what are the "big issues" that could dramatically affect our family's quality of life or my son's education?

(PS while I did come up through public schools in Michigan, I am a Libertarian so I would prefer a market based solution, but I'll take whatever is cheapest right now thanks :) )
