Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.

You guys are aware that this isn't a new concept. Chapel-hill schools do this today and they are better (rest of orange county worse) for it. WCPSS has shown poor management again and again. Why should cary or any other town have to be subjected to that any longer? .... and most people who know me know I don't even like Cary.

Similarly, if you compare the EOG test performance of Wake County's public charter schools vs. WCPSS public schools, the benefits of removing the chains of poor management are pretty obvious.

I think I have made my mind up. I'm going to Home-garage School them. It will be just like the movie House of Rock but all the classes will be about cars and at the end they'll go racing and win a trophy instead of getting a diploma.

Here are some courses on the curriculum. Yeah, it'll be a year-round school, I will always have something I need the little rugrats to work on.

Basic Pain Delivery - Hand Tools 101
Advanced Pain Delivery - Electric and Air tools 201
First Aid Training 301
Troubleshooting POS British Electrical Systems 202
Intro to Electrical Fire Insurance Fraud Techniques 302
Graduate course - How to Spend Other People's Money 402

What? No spreadsheet 101? I am disappointed.

Actually, they'll get a little magnetic plaque with a picture of a Subaru on it

I work for Wake County Schools. I wish they could stay on traditional calender for all the schools. The summer is when we get to catch up on painting and other big projects. With year round we have one week in July and Christmas to do multi day projects.

In my cluster we do not see much diversity in the elementary schools. There are very few white kids in Brentwood or Wilburn elementary.

Eh? I thought there were three weeks off every nine weeks or whatever with year round. What am I missing here?

I would not consider myself an expert on the matter but judging from the education that I got in middle and high school versus the education that some of my friends at other schools got, I would say the best middle and high schools are not in Cary, they are in Raleigh.

It seems like the crux of the problem here is that you either have to choose (if you live in Cary or North Raleigh) to send your kids to a school that is 20 or 30 minutes away and have more opportunity in their courses OR send them to a closer school and not give them the same experience. I am not entirely sure what has changed in the past 3.5 years or so since I left high school but that was the case when I was there.

It also helps the school stats when the students have been stealing the test answers for several years.

Does each track have its own mascot and alma mater? Band? Football team?

I grew up after kids no longer had to work on the family farm all summer, but before A/C was introduced into public schools. The last day of school in June was the greatest day ever. No more school for 90 days, and you could play outside until 8:30 or 9 PM! Perhaps that's why I love the summer, no matter how hot it gets, and dislike the rest of the year.

Anyway, once you folks get the Wake schools straightened out, come on over to Durham and fix our city government and schools. Maybe we'll throw in a couple of free passes to some shows at our newest money sink, the Durham Performing Arts Center.

They do not do year round school after middle school. All the Jr and Senior High schools are on the traditional calender. This is because of sports and such after school activities.

I too grew up before there was AC in the schools. My senoir year one wing of the high school had AC. We even had trailers with no AC.

They did not call off school when there was a threat of snow either. The drivers had to put on chains. We also had student drivers too.
