I can check out?

I am thinking of picking up a new daily driver and even though I've been into Subies since I bought the RS new in 2005, I've surprisingly never driven a WRX...in fact I've only been in one once and that was years ago.

What year are you looking at? If I recall correctly, I think the newer ones have significatntly less turbo lag than the older ones, so you'll want to drive whichever one is appropriately representative for you budget.

I've only driven older ones, and while the on-boost power was nice, getting there took P-A-T-I-E-N-C-E.

The 02-05 WRX has serious turbo lag. If you hate lag, you'll hate daily driving one, as I hated mine sometimes. My 05 WRX only lasted 16k miles with me before I traded it for an 04 STi, which had virtually zero lag. The 07 WRX was really smooth, but the gears were too long, the electronic throttle was laggy, and it limited boost electronically until about 3krpm. It was a great car otherwise, though.

I hear there's a modified yellow 03 WRX for sale. Much less lag, with upgraded (but not loud) exhaust and ECM tuning. And it's survived a lot in the hands of its original owner, so it should be able to take anything you can throw at it. Contact Cosby Wood for more info.

All of the WRXes are really solid cars, and should last a long time if they haven't been abused the way most of them have been.

I much prefer daily driving the 2.5RSes than any of the WRXes I've had, though, including the STi.

While it may not be exactly what you're looking for, I can take you for a ride in my '04 STi if we cross paths at an autoX. It's a great daily driver and has the ability to make people grab for the oh sh*t handles.

Look at that. Haven't even started working it out yet and someone is already pimping out my car. :P

Ryan, the answers you are looking for have already been given. I can confirm those as well. The older (02-05) stock have terrible turbo lag, but the newer ones are much better. The problem with the newer ones is the electronic throttle. Not as responsive as the previous models.

Like Kevin said though, I am about ready to sell mine. The turbo lag isn't as unbearable as the stock form, and it's been modified a bit to get there.

I'ld be glad to meet you in Kinston (about half way) if you're interested. The turbo lag is not that bad with the Cobb AP and down pipe.

Chris, if you've ever wanted to drive an ITR and haven't give me a yell at an event. I've never driven an AWD during fun runs and always wondered how they handled the longer sweepers versus my fwd on lsd. [/hijack] 8)
