When you call a 800 number the owner of the number knows what number is calling even if you have Caller ID Blocking turned on.

I was calling DHL to schedule a pickup. The automated system ask if I wanted a pickup and I said yes. The system then said my home address and ask if that was where I wanted the pickup.

The system obviously knew my phone number even though I always have Caller ID Blocking turned on.

A quick Google search revealed a Wikipedia enter for a telephone system feature called "Call capture". It seems that the FCC allows the owner of a 800 number to see the number that is calling, the name of the caller and the address even if Caller ID Blocking is turned on.

Also by calling the 800 number you are allowing them to call you for the next 90 days even if you have your number on the do not call list.

I guess if you own a 800 number you probably already know about this.

I have had this happen before and thought that Caller ID Blocking was not working.
