Probably have all you need at my house, here are a few tips...

1) Much easier to weld exhaust off of the car (getting to the top of pipes is tough if it's hanging on the car). It is also difficult to weld while operating under jack stands.

2) It is much easier to weld overlapping bits (pipe A is bigger than pipe B and there is an interference fit) than it is to butt weld pieces together.

3) To do a simple muffler can be done by any shop out there and it won't cost much at all (figure 30 min labor at $50-60/hour).

Let me know if you want me to try it (I am not equipped to weld stainless, so if the muffler is stainless, then maybe not) and we will work out a time later this week/weekend.

Ask Wes Eargle who did the resonator on his Contour. The shop did decent work and didn't charge too much.

i'm sure we can get the to-be-welded section off the car....i'm not sure about the size of the pipes...i suspect they are the same as i'm replacing my stock muffler with another stock muffler...we might have to butt weld, or work something else out...it's not stainless so we don't have to worry about that.

i'm busy this week and weekend, i'll hit you up next week if possible...thanks!!!

To avoid the butt weld (huh, huh he said _butt_) get a free tailpipe expander from AutoZone. It's one of their "loaner tools" that you can use then take back. You have to leave a deposit, but you get it back when you return it.

It should do the trick for you so one section will overlap the other.

Bob did the work; it was a one cigarette job (over a lunch break) to sawzall off the old resonator and replace it with my Magnaflow. Twenty bucks total, and he let me hang out and bs with him while he did the welding.
