Never sold a car before (trading in doesn't count).

I've got the title in hand, and the buyer is in VA. The transaction will occur on a Sunday so having a notary present isn't going to be that easy.

What is the minimum I need to do for this to go without a hitch? It looks like "Part A" on the back of the title needs my signature and notarization. Do I really need anything beyond that?

I also figure I'll write up a bill of sale.

The NC DMV site has a generic bill of sale. Check with a notary, but I recall having that done in advance. Keep your plate and registration.

Complete Part A on the title in front of the notary. Write up a bill of sale and have that notarized. You are set to go.

The buyer's signature doesn't need to be notarized on a bill of sale (I guess they could get a second notary for that).

Edit: Nevermind. I see that the sample NC DMV bill of sale doesn't even require a buyer signature.
