So... my new daily distraction is PC racing sims. I prefer GTR2, but RFactor is very popular and has a HUGE online league presence. Well... Trackpedia.com has decided to have its own winter league, and it starts this weekend. Follow this link if you're interested...

http://www.trackpedia.com/wiki/Trackped ... _Challenge

We'll be using the Formula BMW Mod, 1st race is at Brands Hatch, this Saturday. Nightly practices on a dedicated server game.

This is tempting...I have had rFactor for a while and love the Formula BMW mod. I have just never done any online racing with it...have no clue where to begin there.

It's just like playing in-game, only instead of AI opponents, it's real people :)

Hmmm sounds fun but my poor computer just isnt up to snuff for it :(

How much does the game cost to purchase, I cant seem to find it.

Maybe I need to go ahead and upgrade my computer anyway, this seems like a good excuse.

You can download the demo for free to try out with a couple cars, to unlock everything I think its about $30 or $40. Not the value of GTR2 (found at any Best Buy WITH GT Legends for $20) but still not bad for not having to wait for it.

http://www.rfactor.net/ is the official site... www.rfactorcentral.com is the unofficial place for any and all downloads/upgrades/mods, etc.

www.nogripracing.com is a good source for GTR stuff and some RFactor, good forum though.

To show you an idea of what can be done with even the most modest of sim knowledge:

I created this over a couple days at work using photoshop and a tutorial found on rfactorcentral.com...

So Stacy, how hard is it to set up to play online? Any firewall or network issues to deal with? Like I said, I have never tried. I may have to tinker with it some tonight.

There's nothing to it really. Biggest issue is to make sure you are running one of the last two game patches (versions 1.2.5.0 and 1.2.5.5) otherwise, your version probably won't be compatible with the games going on online. Trackpedia is using the latter.

To actually get online, just click the connect button on the left (bottom, with the two arrows) and click join. You'll be loaded using whatever profile you're using at the time.

You'll need winRAR to unzip any patches or mods that you download (google it, its free).

I will give it a try tonight.

I have the latest version already...and more mods than I have time to play. I have been doing a lot with the off road stuff lately.

My steering wheel is worn out. I need to ask Santa for a new one. It still works, but the FF gears are worn/stripped. Makes for an interesting "feel" sometimes.

It is quite fun. I also prefer GTR2 though and now RACE '07 is pretty fun, too.

Something about rFActor just feels and looks a little strange to me. Racing open wheel'ers is friggin insane though.
