My 1987 BMW E30 was rear ended last night by a guy in a POS 1989 Chevy Corsica. I was stopped at the end of a long line of cars on Greenville Blvd. He just didn't stop in time and smacked us pretty hard. My bumper won! My neck and Krissy's (7) head didn't. His bumper was smashed and I just had some of his paint on mine.
He hit us hard enough that my seat broke. Krissy was in a booster seat and both of us were restrained. Her head hit the speaker in the back and she has a knot with a headache. My neck and back hurt. We both checked out OK at the ER.
I know people have said the 87 E30 has a heavy bumper and they are right. He had to have hit us between 5 and 10 mph. I've been in that kind of wreck before and this seemed nearly as hard a hit.
I am lucky that our bumpers were exactly the same height and he hit us perfectly square. An SUV would have hit higher than the bumper and had much more mass = much more damage.

Glad your are ok.

Greenville Blvd is a dangerous place this time of year. Shannon and I saw a girl rear end an SUV last Friday afternoon. Reason: Yapping on the phone.

Walter,

I'm glad to hear that everyone is ok. Surely the guy must have been going faster than 10 if your seat broke!

I'm glad everyone is ok (for the most part). I would agree with Chuck's sentiment here. I was hit in an offset head on in my E30. I was doing around 35mph and so was the other car and my seat was bent up, but remained surprisingly structurally sound. - AB

Yeah - glad nobody was badly hurt.

Guess that means you'll have to put race seats in!

Thanks for all the concern. It really scared Krissy and she still has a nasty bump on the back of her head.
The guy said he was going 15 or 20, but with no damage to the BMW I can't see how he was going that fast. The bumper is good, but could it be that good? I attribute the seat damage to my body mass!
Yes, Kendt, I do need some race seats. Do you have any?

Glad it wasn't worse. Greenville is CRAZY! I feel safer on the beltline in Raleigh than in Greenville.

Cline is right. I've lived in a several places over the years and Greenville has the worst drivers. We have a bad mix - lots of college students, many old people used to a small town, low SES drivers, and worst of all, country drivers not used to multi lane streets and traffic.

I have a Corbeau seat that I've used in the Camaro. I'll buy one to match and get mounts for the BMW.

What model? One of the pair I bought (Forzas) is looking a little tired and I'm considering one brand new one. I'd give you a heck of a deal.
