Higher than most thought, and, as expected, the car looks like it won't come with a limitied slip. :(

They certainly hammer you with the "option pricing." Ouch!

I feel the pricing is about $5,000 too high for the market they were trying to get with the 1 Series but that is just me.

I might be able to afford the 1/4 series if they ever make that. Too bad that will probably also be over 3k lbs as well.

Dear BMW,

Thank you for helping me cross another car off of my "I HAVE to have one of those" list.

The 135i costs too damn much.

Bastards!!!

Sincerely,

Todd

The linked article has been updated. Is it the original (wrong) price of $35,675 or the new (corrected) price of $29,375 that you are talking about?

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.

The 135i weighs as much as the damn Love Boat for a so-called "compact car".

Bastards!!!

Sincerely,

Todd

Richard, I thing the $29k price is for the 128i, also too expensive in my book.

Ryan, I like your wording much better!!!

It seems reasonably priced for the performance it brings to the table to me. It is a BMW, after all. If you want an inexpensive BMW, buy a Mini. :D

I will agree that it is ocean-tanker heavy, however.

I guess that's their reason behind the $29k price on the 128i.

You know, it hasn't been too long since people would be drooling over a 128i with 230hp and a nice torque curve in a 3200 lb or bit less chassis. How times change...

Too bad on the 135i...sigh...by the time you put some options you want on it (at least the $1k sport pkg), etc., it's knocking on the $40k door. One good thing however about both the 3-series and probably the 1-series is that the resale value holds incredibly well compared to other cars priced the same. The bad part of this is waiting for prices to come down on used cars of course I guess.

True. This is the cheapest BMW to ever offer this much performance. Stock it will be a mid-13 second car in the 1/4 mile. With a simple Vishnu Procede and exhaust, its easily into the 12's with traps over 110mph.

I guess I am just spoiled that I bought my Crossfire 1 1/2 years ago for $18.5 and now with 20,000 miles later trade in is still between 17-18k. I know the quality on the BMW is better but I could get an STi Limited for less money than the 135i and you are getting a lot more car IMO. But what do I know I drive a Chrysler.

Yea, your argument pretty much went straight downhill after that opening. :)

I tend to agree that the STi is probably more car for the money but you're thinking like an enthusiast. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that from my perspective.

I also think that to the average consumer that 135i > STi (and ultimately BMW > Subaru) no matter how you slice it. And there sure are a whole lot more of them then there are of us. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see it $5k cheaper but with the current price of most new cars, I don't think they will be hurting in sales much (if at all) at the higher price point. :whoknows:

And I still think it is a lot of car for the money at the higher price point even with the crazy option pricing. A few of my coworkers were buzzing about the car today and they definitely fall right in line with BMW's target market. I have a feeling I'll be seeing at least one in the parking lot in the coming months.

kinda makes a C6 all the more appealing. hmmnn. 415hp and the civility to drive every day.

135i - no lsd, overheating when pressed on the track & way too much initial investment. very disappointing. if BMW really wanted to sell an enthusiast version in the US they would have offered it with cloth seats.

as i see it, what we have here is market positioning by a company that knows they can continue to sell greater numbers of vehicles every year by offering "target" cars. create the hype and sell the street car to fit the image. (ala Toyota)

realistically, who will be buying the new M3? how many E46 M3's does one see at an average track weekend? damn few. BMW has probably realized they have priced themselves out of the grassroots enthusiast market. thus the 128. will it recreate the following the E30 or E36 have today? only time will tell.
