Foreplay - Boston - heard this in a store today and started playing my air band instruments until my wife gave me a look that could kill a lesser man :-)

Another instrumental fave...the over-requested, overplayed, over- appreciated Early Van Halen classic - Eruption. Yes, it's hackneyed but I like it.

This youtube version is pretty crusty compared to the live album version

And who could forget Dick Dale, lots of instumentals

And the grand master and hometown boy,... From Dunn, Link Wray

Eruption

Not an instrumental "song" per se, but it had a huge impact on my high school and college years. I wasn't into music growing up, but Eddie Van Halen made me go out and buy a guitar and the loudest Marshall amp I could afford, and spend most of my free time jamming out. I learned to appreciate Jimi Hendrix, Paganini, and everything in between, including every instrumental mentioned in this thread so far.

But that's just me. Eruption might have influenced others, I don't know.

Ok, first I am a huge Pink Floyd fan. I would love to pile on that bandwagon, but I will post something else...

Not classic electric rock, but awesome acoustic guitar...

Michael Hedges - Aerial Boundaries

Music in video is from studio album, but it's cool to watch his technique. Sadly Michael was killed in a car wreck a few years back.

(here is a live version... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YTiyg2lmbOE )

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.

You know, I never post in threads like this, and I have nothing of musical note to add to this one either, but:

I saw Michael Hedges live in Asheville during high school, 100% spur-of-the-moment. I had never heard of him before, I just wanted to get off campus for a night. It rocked my poor little "classic rock is the only music worth listening to" world so hard it has never really recovered. I had always wanted to see him again, I guess I screwed that one up.

I don't consider myself to be very big into "Music". But I have a handful of favorites. Pink Floyd, David Bowie, The Police, Brian Eno, Talking Heads, a few bands along the lines of Kraftwerk, etc. But of all of those, the one I wish I could see live some day in the future was Michael Hedges. When I found out he had died, it just rocked my world. I still think about the talent that is gone.

I don't feel so bad for being awed by this guy's talent now. I've been listening to more of his off of YouTube since you posted that. A few cd's have been added to my Christmas list.

The Michael Hedges talk made me think of Mike Rayburn.

Another talented guitar player, but more of a comedian than a true virtuoso. Saw him at Elon and bought his cd.

Satriani rips for sure. I wish I had more of his stuff on CD as well as Yngwie Malmsteen and Steve Vai.

Found this video a while back on youtube of Vai and Zappa duking it out. Pretty cool.
