I could swear I saw a MARKED state patrol Dodge Charger in Durham yesterday. It was black with narrow horizontal silver stripes on the side.

I also saw a restored 1958 Edsel station wagon the other day. I'm thinking F-stock sleeper....

Me again. I was pretty concerned about getting a ticket in my shiny new Mustang Monday, as I had a tee time at a course in Clayton. That meant behaving myself all the way down the I-40 RTP corridor, and back.

However, the crack-down was even more severe than I expected. Less than a mile from my house, I came upon two Durham police cars on the side of Guess Rd, lights flashing. They had pulled over a Prius with a "Duke University" decal (the fancy gothic lettering) in the rear window. I think it was Brice Johnson. I hope he's made bail by now.

Rarely. This was my first round of golf since early June, and I stunk it up. Thank you for your concern for my well-being. I have learned to stand well behind the other idiots when they hit, and to use trees, golf carts and other players as protective cover.

I haven't seen too many stop lights on I-40. :?

State Troopers were out in force again today on I-40 between Raleigh and Wilmington.

I guess they didn't meet there non-quota over the holiday week-end.

Yeah, but what usually follows an exit ramp? :P

Speaking of exit ramps . . .

Have any of you noticed the NEW yellow lines in the left two lanes adjacent to some on ramps onto I-540 and I-40 ideally placed for a spotter on the on ramp to time how long it takes to cover the distance between the lines?

Preliminary measurements indicate it takes about 5.8 seconds at about 70 mph to cover the distance between the lines. This computes to ABOUT 600 feet between the lines. This means that a nice round 5 seconds would be about 82 mph.

I see the lines on I-540 W at the Glenwood overpass, I-40 E at the first exit after Wade (295?). I-40 W at Aviation (285?).

Dick (No radar detector and no tickets since 1984 or so. You better believe that takes a combination of restraint and LUCK) The 1984 ticket was for going too fast on a freeway ramp testing my Lotus . . . )

I got a warning once for taking the exit ramp for six forks off 440 too fast. In my favor was the fact that that ramp did not have a posted speed limit like they all do now, and I said I thought the the surface street did not begin until the intersection (35mph). I told the officer the exit was just more fun at 50 and he smiled and I smiled back and he wrote me a warning. :D

That was a long time ago.
