Well,
There was a C4 grand sport for sale at CMP for $9K or BO...

Had this just been peeled off a tire wall or something?

Nope looked like a good 6 speed version. For sale at the dealership at Kershaw. A person at the track almost bought it on the spot.

Any Grand Sport that hasn't been beat to death, crashed, and still has original matching numbers is a keeper. I wouldn't turn it into a track car though. Those are collectible and the value is starting to go up nicely.

Now a C4 wouldn't be a bad track car. They're cheap now. In relative terms, before you dumpster divers start saying they're expensive. 89-91 or 92-96 depending on your base budget. Full suspension package from VBP to stiffen the chassis and make it more adjustable. Convert the stock 350 to a 383 stroker motor.

With a better motor and some suspension mods an RX8 looks like a good track car to me. That also doubles as a good looking street car. I can't believe I just said that...

I also think that Toyota's upcoming small RWD car (SR5 successor) may make the short list as well.

I've heard rumors of Nissan making a lightweight, inexpensive rwd car to compete with Toyota...could be cool
