That was Portland...same weekend as Champ Car a few weeks ago. That session in the wet was the suck, let me tell you. I'm not a fan of Victoracers as rain tires.

My car was ass that weekend...just wouldn't turn during the race. Push, push, push. I had some good battles and some fun racing, but it was with people that I was ahead of on lap times at Laguna (and ahead of when I spun at Laguna during the race). Portland is not a very fun course. Fairly short, not very much in the way of interesting features.

I'm still learning to communicate what the car is doing to the crew. You can do a lot more adjusting to these things than an SM and I need to get used to using that.

How is the car overall? How 'bout the racing? It looks like it would be a fun class to race with.

Have you talked to Team MER and Drew et al about what's going on feeling-wise?

No, I thought I'd just let it heal itself. *sigh* Of course I have! It's hard to describe the environment at one of these races, but suffice it to say there's a lot going on, a lot of cars to prep, and a lot of conditions changing to deal with. Not that I get ignored or anything, but I just am not very good at communicating just how "bad" a car is and such. I can tell them it's pushing, but it's hard to master how to tell them how bad it is. And where and when it is, etc.

As for the racing, yeah, it's great. Very fun, very competitive. Great stuff.

Those cars would look way hot with a hard top instead of the dumb rollbar sticking out.

I agree. It would also be nice for those times when they make you grid 25 minutes early and it starts raining while you're sitting there waiting. *sigh*

Apparently Mazda wants them topless as an advertising thing, though. They do have a factory hard top, you're just not allowed to run it.

Fortunately when you're driving it you can't really tell that it isn't there, even when raining. It is cooler than a car with a top, but not by a HUGE amount. You are required to wear arm restraints, though, which I find quite annoying and likely fairly useless. That cage has so many tubes and is so tight that it would be REALLY unlikely that an arm could escape in a crash anyway.

Oh, that's what they are for, alright, but I'm pretty sure that if photo evidence of me with one of those existed I'd be in a WORLD of trouble. Especially that one. Wow.

Not to totally hijack this thread, but that is something that is missing at some of our sunnier venues. Grid can get down right toasty. What better way to hide from the heat. She seems to have a nice grip on that umbrella handle too....
