From Autoweek ....

Chevy is not confirming the existence of a super-high-performance Corvette called the Blue Devil (AW, Dec. 22), but officials acknowledge it’s possible that engineering and racing development prototypes based on the sixth-generation Corvette do exist and may have picked up the moniker.

And yes, as many AutoWeek readers have suggested, the Blue Devil name was chosen intentionally to catch the attention of General Motors CEO and Duke University Blue Devil alumnus Rick Wagoner.

Chevy officials say they have no production plans for the 600-hp, 7.0-liter V8-powered Blue Devil, despite information obtained by AutoWeek pointing to a 2006 production debut of the $100,000 sports car. The production C6’s worldwide premiere is just days away at the Detroit auto show.

I saw that also. I also heard that Chevy considers Ford to be the "Blue Devil". And that the 600 horse Vette would be there answer to the Blue Devil's new GT.
I LOVE horsepower wars even if it involves cars that I can't afford.

The C6-R will debut at Sebring in 2005.

The current C5-R will run in 2004. There are 4 of them.

Graham you are incorrect  . There are actually 11 C5-R's :D but whose counting....Anyway GM will not be running 4 cars. The drivers for the season are changing however. Ron Fellows and Johnny O will stay together and be partnered by Mad Max Papis this year in the endurance events. The sister car will once again have Oliver Gavin Joined by Oliver Berretta and Jan Magnussen coming in at the longer races. They are also switching to Michlin tires(thank god) and revising the bodies a good bit once again. The ferrari's were 10mph quicker down the straights due to the superior aerodynamics at lemans. And the tires were an issue the whole time since the program started. All they need now are some good engines and they will once again be unbeatable.

Rob. I wasn't counting total C5-Rs in existence. You're right they finally decided on the drivers after some interesting things went on and few drivers got released as they put it

#3 and #4 will be driven by the crews you mentioned. But there are backup cars. During this last season they had 3 cars at some events. One of the drivers that was released was apparently due to the fact that he hit things with their precious car...

Haven't seen Mags drive yet have you??? He's been known to put a Hack GT driver or two off in his day. He's very very aggressive in traffic.

I've probably seen him drive before but never paid much attention. I hope they tell him that the " rubbin' is racin' " stuff doesn't fly BEFORE he gets in the car

You definetely have a good point on the swap to Michelin. The Goodyears hurt them all season long. Michelin has a much better developed tire.

So how many C5R's were built and were there more than one type
of C5R?

The LeMans cars that ran in the ALMS series where called C5R's.
What about about the 50 or so Grand Am Kit cars that are named
C5RGA or something like that. Example of one is on display in Bowling Green

Never could enough of Corvette trivia.

There are 11 total C5-R's. Built on 3 different generations of chassis. The First were 1 inch wider than the factory cars. The current are over 6 inches wider than the factory cars, hence the wide fender flares. Only one has ever been sold and it was a Gen 2 car and it runs in the Belcar championship series.

The grand am/speed world challenge cars are shells GM has sold to people to build racecars from. David Farmer is the only one to run what what was at one time a streetcar last season. I believe he's sold that car as well. They aren't C5-R's they are Z06's. They'll be running a factory built racecar in Speed world challenge soon.

Dave is keeping the car for now. In fact he's getting a new paint job for it. Now it will be a yellow/orange color with some blue mixed in. He said he can do the East Coast stuff but probably can't afford to do the West Coast. He has no sponsors at this time. Gotta give the guy credit though. No real backing and using a Z06 that he pretty much built himself. He's pretty competetive given who he has to run against. Phil McClure will be back with full sponsorship.

Well Dave just did an about face yesterday morning. The car is up for sale along with his new toter/hauler package. So if anyone is looking for a great track car and has tons of spare money...

2001 World Challenge Corvette, 530HP Katech, 2 transmissions, 3 diffs, Carbon Body, Penskes, Stoptechs. Make Reasonable offer.

On a more positive note. LG Motorsports is coming back with their C5.
