69,000 miles, was in N.Y., has the 2.4 5 cyl non turbo. AWD. Automatic. He needs 3rd row seating.

Any praises or warnings? Recommeded mechanics in the Cary/Apex area for a pre-purchase inspection.

Stay away from the AWD V70's. The 2wd versions are much more reliable and tend not to have the driveline issues that the AWD cousins do.

Tell them also to stay away from NY cars, or anything north of VA. Like Scott said in another post, go South for cars, not North. - AB

I had the 2002 AWD XC70 for 3 years and had only one problem. It does have a low pressure turbo....I know because the IC hose came off: that was the only problem we had. Handling wise it's a bit vague at 70+ miles an hour but that's to be expected for the type of car it is. If I remember correctly it got about 27mpg on the highway. I sold it because we had twins and wanted more space to get them in and out of the vehicle. Moved to an AWD minivan :)

I used the dealer in Chapel Hill for all services so I don't really have a recommendation for another Volvo mechanic.

The car was the best all weather vehicle I've owned. I bought it after renting one in the winter to drive through the Adirondacks in the snow.
