Who'da thunk it?

I don't know if anybody was watching the F1 practice today but they aired the remainder of the 2nd practice session in lieu of switching over to Cup qualifying. It was good to see although knowing they were going to re-air the entire Cup qualifying session at 8:30pm this evening may have played into the decision.

There have been a bunch of rumors that Speed is going to try and diversify their programming again. It appears they actually may be listening to their viewers and realize that even the most hardened NASCAR fans don't need it 24/7. I sure don't.

We'll see how serious they are in the next few months.

Handy TV racing schedule

I've posted that link before but this is probably a good time to do it again in case anybody missed it.

FWIW, they didn't "bump" NASCAR, Speed stuck to their contract to Bernie and Max and showed what they were supposed to show. I just wished that the DVR captured all of the coverage that was provided.

I know they didn't technically bump NASCAR but in these situations in the past, they cut the F1 (or whatever) coverage short to switch to NASCAR coverage.

Baby steps...

They also re-aired the F1 practice coverage and edited it down to the regular time frame cutting out all the cruft from the delayed practice. It was in the middle of the night but it was DVR friendly at least.

The thing that pisses me off the most about Speed is that every event they show is listed as

"Auto Racing"

No shit. That was fun watching the qualifying session.

Think about it, at 1 9 years of age this guy is at the pinnacle of motorsports. WOW, just WOW>

I really like their new qualifying format. NASCAR should try that on the road courses. :D

I think Hamilton is an old man at 22. I believe the 19-year-old guy they mentioned in practice/qualifying is Vettel substituting for the injured Kubica. Still danged impressive either way.

What in the heck was I doing at 19? You really don't want to know... :angeldevil:

You've got that right!

NO kidding about Hamilton. Worst finish this year, 3rd, in his first F1 race in Australia, and never off the podium!

What a great weekend for motorsports!

They guys has never finished a F1 race lower than he qualified. So I'd say it looks good for him tomorrow.

I think we are all justified in envying him.

I don't envy him, I hate him!

Totally kidding about that! I've always been a McLaren fan for whatever random reason and it was almost painful to watch the last couple of seasons with all their reliability problems.

I've never warmed up to Alonso and I was a little disappointed when he moved over to McLaren this year. I watched most of the GP2 races last year and when I learned Hamilton was moving up, I was excited and a little nervous at the same time. I didn't think he would give Alonso a hard time until later in year but the kid is relentless. The look on Alonso's face during the post qualifying interviews was priceless. I keep holding my breath waiting for Hamilton to make a mistake but the kid is just plain money so far! I hope he wins the championship and has a long run in the sport.

Did anybody see the F1-live thing they did on Thursday? It was sort of like NASCAR-live where they interviewed all the drivers. It was pretty cool seeing the guys in a semi-relaxed atmosphere and Hamilton gave as good a driver interview as I've seen. He was the only one I saw that didn't come out with his teammate which makes me wonder if Alonso is already starting to crack. Did anybody catch why Alonso didn't show up or did I just miss him completely (I missed a few parts of the show)?

What Vettel did was nuts. Alonso on the podium looked pissed, which indicated that he believes the reports of what he told the media. Oh well, bring it or get the short trophy. I'm still looking forward to Derek Daly announcing the krashing on the kerbs that he's famous for.

Yeah I forgot his name but that was impressive as well. First ever F1 race and he makes all the way thru to Q3, starting 6th I think.

Here's hoping for a good race for tomorrow!
