 As you all know, I had a fender bender with my Mustang on Nov 17th. Well after much deliberating I decided to have insurance pay for it instead of paying out of pocket. This will save me about $750 not including a possible raise in my premiums.

So the adjuster comes out to the house this past Saturday to do the estimate. I open the hood for him and without hesitatinng, he asks "Have you had this car repaired before?" This took me by surprise since I bought the car new in Aug '02 with only 5 miles on it and I hadn't had any wrecks since then. I said "No. Why?" He then procedes to show me several panels and brackets that have been replaced and/or repaired!!!!!!! :furious:

Turns our the left front fender, the header panel and the radiator support panel have been replaced and the right front fender has been repaired. All of this had been painted and you can see overspray on several peices that aren't supposed to be painted!!!!!

Needless to say, I am pissed!! :furious: I'm taking the car to Crossroads Ford tomorrow after work and ask them about it. I might even have to show my :moon: and get the lawyer that a friend used involved. He also bought a Mustang GT about the same time I did, only to find out that his was wrecked to the point that the frame was twisted!!! He is now driving a new Mustang curtosey of Ford.

Bummer!!! :(

Keep us posted. Sounds like something is rotten with either Crossroads or the trucking/rail company or at the factory. With only 5 miles on the car (assuming they are legit) the "wreck" couldn't have happened very far from the dealer/truck/factory! I wonder if it got hit in the dealer lot. It would "seem" that the dealer would need to declare repaired damage to a new car.

Good luck!

Todd,

I just found this web page http://www.ncdebtrelief.com/

Scroll down until you see the 25% DAMAGE TO USED VEHICLE OR 5% DAMAGE TO NEW VEHICLE: item.

I might soon be making enemies here, but I work at x-roads as a driver and it's much more likely that the damage ocurred before it got to us. New cars often come in with loose or even missing pieces that we need to fix before a sale. We've even had cars come in that need real work before a sale (engine codes, etc). Not saying it's impossible that someone at x-roads messed up, but it's less likely from what I've seen.

Well, I guess I should have titled this thread "My insurance adjuster is an IDIOT!!"

I went to Crossroads Ford yesterday to talk to my salesman (Steve Carson, very nice guy by the way) about what the adjuster told me. While I was waiting for him to return from a test drive I decided to look under the hoods of some of the Mustangs in the show room. What I found surprised me, they all looked EXACTLY the same as mine, save for some being v-6's and dome with blowers. EVERY "trouble" point that the adjuster showed me was exactly the same on all of these cars. Overspray patterns, painted header panels, variations in paint thicknesses, welded radiator braces, all EXACTLY the same!!!

So that leads me to believe that either all of the cars on Crossroads lot are wrecked (not very likely) or my car is fine, there is some sloppy craftsmenship in Dearborn, and my adjuster is an IDIOT (most likely the case).

So I guess Ford won't be buying me a new 2005 GT after al. No big deal, I like my car and I didn't want to have to get a lawyer anyway (their all crooks ;) )

Todd,

Good news. Since I have a 1997 and a 2001 I'm curious where these scary areas are. Can you see them from above or do you have to look underneath? Mine both look "normal" from above and from underneath for a mass produced car. I want to be prepared if the question ever comes up during a potential repair or sale discussion.

Dick,

What "concerned" him was some overspray on the hood stops (around the square base), the welds on what appears to be the radiator bracket, and some spray pattern on both of the fenders, underneath the hood. Like I said, all of these were exactly the same on all of the Mustangs and Cobras I looked at in the Crossroads showroom. Find me at the first auto-x and I'll show you what he was looking at.
