Well, my day had an interesting beginning.... I sustained my 4th accident. I was rear-ended in Cary this morning on 64E/US1. A lady in a Toyota 4Runner, who had turned around to make her 4-year old rebuckle his seat belt rear-ended me going about 20-25 or so. The car held up well. My neck was a little sore at first but feels fine now. The smoothie I made this morning was all over the inside of the car, but has since been cleaned. Now for the carnage, estimates to come....

The last time the bumper cover was about $800 to replace and paint. She made it into the trunk lid, so I know this one will be pricey...

"Honey - I'm about to have an accident, so you'd better buckle up..."

I'm *so* glad I live in the sticks - hope the estimate isn't too bad.

Kenny Hawkins will make it good as new. And their estimates include lost value.

I hate people.

Good luck with the repair man.

I will probably take it back to Southern States, since they have mended the car the previous times and I have been happy with thier work. I just dread the hassle of it all. Hopefully it will be ready to go on June 10.

Estimate came in at just over $1100. It will be going through her insurance, so hopefully that will make things like a rental car easier...

Retro bump...

My wife's IS300 is sitting at Kenny Hawkins' now and hopefully it is salvageable after a nasty rear-ender this morning. Can anyone explain how this works or any first hand experience?

My State Farm agent explained to me this morning that sometimes with a repair in the 25% of the car's value range, you may see a check for lost value due to the wreckage after the repairs have been performed.

thanks,
Matt

I've done this myself. I had to press to get mine.... Since the car is now "worth less" in a repaired stated vs virgin, you should be able to get an additional 10-15% of the repair value in a check payable to you as an off set to the depreciated state of the car. The logic is you can't sell the car for what it was originally worth now due to repairs.

I'm not an insurance adjuster, haven't even played on on TV, but my gut tells me the trigger for a lost value payment is if the damage is high enough to appear on your title and/or carfax.
