Here's a really cool story from NC State's Centennial Campus with the Lone Wolf self-driven Lotus. It's not everyday that the cover of the N & O features an Elise on the cover.

There's a video link on the webpage as well.

I believe our very own Dan Durusky worked on this project.

Possible competition?

Well if it comes down to performance of the car, we know who has the edge.

I never thought Kit would be reincarnated as a VW.

Yeh its a really cool project. The poor Lotus is so bastardized. auto tranny, hundreds of pounds in batteries, computers, and electronics, shit stuck all over it, pokes around at like 15mph all day. haha

That gold is pretty simple and clean looking. I don't think thatd single Lidar would cut it for the Urban Challenger.

Here is the trunk of our Lotus. Did i mention that thing is TINY?

Thats right, shes Mac powered :P We're running linux load balanced on 9 mac minis.

Now this is enough Lidars:

Here is the top platform with articulating radars, GPS antenna, camera, emergencey stop buttons, gyro, and more:

The project will also be featured on the BBC, Discovery Channel, and Top Gear Magazine. Discovery is documenting our entire build and trip to the finals.

Dan...anyone else? Any word how the car is? They are at the DARPA Challenge.

I read it hopped a curb. No performance effecting damage I hope.

Ugh public schools get so much $$ for this cool stuff! GA Tech has an air-conditioned warehouse for their motorsports team; we have a closet.

I probably couldn't even get Duke to fund a 24 Hours of LeMons team.

Which would, by the way, be the sweetest student club imaginable.

I don't think that too many of the public schools are getting funding form the school. Most of it comes from private donation from what I understand. And if ANY school has alumni rich enough to fund a FSAE project, it is DOOK. They are just too busy with other things to worry about how their SAE program is doing.

I also think that the Lone Wolf project was paid for with a grant. No school money there.

A few years ago your FSAE team showed up at Sanford with a 24' enclosed trailer. Maybe you should move your lab into that :P

Find someone who can write up a killer grant proposal. There's money out there - you just have to find an angle to get the folks who control the money interested in what you're doing. Isn't Rick Wagoner a Duke grad? Melinda Gates? Tell them you've found a way to stop Tyler Hansbrough.
