our subdivision is only 46 houses, I got the $8000 figure from an estimated $200/lamp, which is probably still an underestimate.
The thing that gets to me is people fixating on these stupid problems when the streets in our neighborhood are falling apart, one of the damages spots has cracked the sewer underneat (and they are the responsibilty of the HOA to maintain b/c they are too narrow to meet town of Cary codes), and the neighborhood BADLY needs additional parking built (since we took away a lot of spots that people used to park to assure emergency vehicle access).
This is just me venting at this point really though, I think I can illustate my point to them about color temperature by using my truck (conventional halogen headlights) and my mazda (HID) to show them what I'm talking about.
Are there any solar lights that actually put out reasonable colored light? The only ones I've ever seen are always either super white or REALLY yellow. Gas lamps put out light more in the 3500-4000k range I believe, this is what they are looking for (even though they don't know it). This is the closest thing I've seen, and light output is claimed to be "white", but if this is using what I'm used to seeing as white LED's, it'll look more like a fluorescent light than a gas lamp. . .
