The MS-R package is for off-highway racing use only. In order to purchase this package the customer must be a Mazda Motorsport Team Support Member and an officially licensed SCCA member. The package is available on a special order basis through Mazdaspeed Motorsports.

Since its introduction in 1990, the MX-5 Miata has been one of the most successful models in SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) amateur road racing competition. The MX-5 Miata has captured multiple SCCA National Championships in the showroom stock and production racing classes and in SCCA National Solo 2 (autocross) competition.
To celebrate this success, Mazda is pleased to announce the availability of the MS-R option package for 2007 MY MX-5 SV models. The MS-R option package is designed specifically for customers that will be racing their MX-5s in SCCA’s Showroom Stock B (SSB) road racing class and C Stock (CS)
autocross class and is for off-highway racing use only. The MX-5s light weight chassis and 5 speed gearbox make it an ideal starting point for the weekend racer. The MS-R option package features a track-tested performance suspension, limited slip differential and 17 inch wheels and is available on a special order basis through Mazdaspeed Motorsports.
Availability:
Orderable from March 1 of 2007.
Base Vehicle:
SV with 5 M/T
Package contents:
• Limited slip differential
• Shock Tower Brace
• Chassis bracing (under brace)
• 17” alloy wheels and 205/45 R17 tires
• Koni shocks
• Sway bars (larger diameter)
• Springs (higher rate and lower ride height)
• Rear lip spoiler

I am very annoyed with Mazda at the moment because of this. This is the car I wanted last Fall but it never appeared. Now I bought a daily driver and have been converting my Miata to STS2. If the price is released and I can afford it I will be selling all my STS2 stuff and trading my Crossfire in. :x It is frustrating. According to Brian Goodwin the people at Mazdaspeed say the car will be street legal but as of right now it is listed as "For off-highway use only."

I take it that those ain't 17x8s. Once again, Mazda has the narrowest wheels out there.

they run 17x7s. Guys have run 245/45/17 Kuhmos or 225/50/17 Hoosiers on those wheels.

How exactly would this ever be CS legal? The whole point of stock class is that all of the parts have to be available equally to regular joe's off the showroom floor.

Chevy did the same thing with the 1LE originally or so my dad told me. You had to be an SCCA member to buy one. Mazda also did it with the failed Club Sport in 2003 when you had to be an SCCA member initially to get one. Basically it is the companies way of letting racers be the first to get the car not someone who just wants a better handling street car.

Correct me if I'm wrong but, I think that if they sell them through regular dealers and the parts are available from the regular parts catalog, then it could be classed as a stock car.

There's a rule that it can't be classed in stock if it is for competition use only or "off-highway" use as this car is currently listed. If they fix that, the fact that you *may* still have to order it through Mazdaspeed probably won't be an impediment to stock classing.

You don't order it thru MS, you get a PO# thru them as a member, then you take it to any dealer to order or purchase off the floor at S plan price.
You can purchase any Mazda product this way as a member of MS.
The SCCA member restriction to get the PO# as said is just to give serious racers first shot. Keeps from having the Mini JCW fiasco where the limited # were entirely bought up by attention whores and speculators before the racers could get their hands on them.
It was the same deal when the Solstice ZOK first came out, you had to get a PO thru SCCA to order one.
FWIU Mazda has also put a high MSRP on the package probably to discourage casual buyers. I'd expect the S plan price to be in line with the ZOK package.

Word I'm hearing is that Mazda may have jumped the gun on this and it may not happen at all for 2007. Stay tuned...

I just got back from Millenium Mazda and this is what they gave me. It is not available for order yet so ignore that.

No price available according to Mazda right now.

This is coming from way higher up than a dealer, Keith. Stay tuned, this may indeed get killed for this year. At the very least it looks like it will get materially changed.

I am not saying otherwise. Just sharing what I found. Either way the Solstice is looking better and better.

Sorry to jump the gun, but this car is supposedly back on. It almost got caught in red tape, but apparently the issue was worked out. The "off-highway" thing is going away, too...and there may be more surprises (of the good kind) to come...
