My old 8000 series unit got REAL flaky, so I just took it by the customer service center on Atlantic and swapped it with a new model. No questions asked, no money exchanged. I don't think you can get that with satellite and deffinately not with a stand alone Tivo unit.

I also worried about this when switching, seeing as how I went through 3 different DVR's from TWC. However, I now think that the TWC DVR boxes are just pieces of crap, I've never had a single problem with either of my HD DirectTV Tivo boxes or my regular Tivo's, nor do I hear about similar occurences with them. TWC's service with regards to the flaky b oxes is flawless, but I prefer to have a box that just doesn't flake out on me in the first place.

We've had a few DVR boxes switched out, and our most recent 8300 HD box has been quite good for a while now. It's worlds better than the 8000HD DVR's, and if we only had the option for the old boxes, I'd have gone back to satellite a long time ago.

My only complaint is that the TWC techs usually don't listen to me when I say something is busted. They come scerw with all my cables, etc only to tell me, "I think the box is broken, let's switch it out." My reply is always the same, "Yep, that's what I said *before* you spent 30 minutes in my 140 deg attic."

yeah, all 3 of the boxes that crapped out on me were 8000's, I don't have any experience with the 8300's, perhaps they are better.

Bernie and I have DirecTV because where we live in the metropolis of Bahama it’s satellite TV or three fuzzy channels. So, $$$ isn’t even a consideration, however, today I was glad we had DirecTV. I ordered Hotpass for NASCAR this year and we used it today for the Daytona 500. While it would have been better if the commentators had not talked over the two way communications between driver and crew chiefs about half the time, it was pretty cool to at least be able to watch the race (if not hear it) during FOX commercials. A few times when something important was happening the Hotpass channel muted the commercials. You could watch FOX on top right, which is what we're accustomed to, in car camera of any of the 5 drivers available at the bottom, and a 3rd view top left. Listeneing to the spotters in traffic was interesting. Telemetry showed at the bottom. Jr’s crash from “shotgun” was pretty awesome. I think we’ll enjoy having it this season.
