I know nobody is likely to cry for me, but enough folks seemed interested that I figured I'd post here. Turns out I wasn't high enough up on the list at FCI to get the *only* one they'll be getting. Apparently they chose to ignore my phone calls instead of letting me know MONTHS ago when they knew this, too. *sigh*

So, what to do instead? Well, selling the Cayman for anything resembling decent money (ie. I would have had to let it go for less than MSRP on a non-S new Cayman) wasn't working, either. Since I love the car other than the lack of power and LSD, I decided to send it to Farnbacher-Loles and let them turn it into what it should be:

Gonna get the works done to it and keep it. Looks like it would still be SM2 legal, so while I'd definitely do some track days, I'd also probably autocross it.

It was do this or get a Noble, and I chose this route. If I didn't already have the Cayman, I would have probably gone for a Noble. But having it makes this an easy choice.

It sucks that they didn't call you and let you know. You would think with that kind of money on the line, they'd focus a little on the customer service. Of course, they might've been waiting to see if they other guy was going to back out.

Anyway, I don't know how the specs of the two cars compare, but given the option, it would be awfully hard to turn down a noble.

Edit.. Doh, I thought you were asking opinions on which choice. Nevermind me.

I had been wondering ever since I saw that car if it would be competitive in SM2 or not. Maybe we will find out?

There's no way it would be nationally competitive. The Strelnieks RX-7 with the triple rotor twin turbo has a LOT more tire than I'll ever see on the Cayman. I suppose if one were to *really* try to make the Cayman competitive in SM2 you might stand a chance, but you'd need the turbo motor in there and you'd need to flare the fenders. You'd also have to do a lot of things that make the car non-streetable, which is not something I'm apt to do.

I think what I'm doing would allow it to take Les' Miata quite comfortably, though.

keep us posted on the build. i am still sporting a chubby for a Cayman, but not at 290 hp.

i was at hendricks today servicing a truck when the transport truck rolled off a $77K Z06. black and beautiful.

sad part is the cayman might handle better on track.

If you ever need to borrow the Hasselhoff techno soundtrack to get the German car to be truly "teh fast", let me know.

Sorry that the GT3 RS didn't work out, but congratulations on doing the Farnbacher-Loles GTR conversion. I would think that the X-51 in the Cayman would be awesome and the Farnbacher-Loles product looks pretty complete. IIRC Excellence magazine had a writeup on one awhile back? If it was me, I probably would prefer the custom Cayman over the RS anyhow. Its the car I think Porsche should build.
