I had a run in with a deer Friday morning on my way to Charlotte. It happened on Grasshopper road for those of you who are local. It was taking a leisurely stroll across the road and ran when the two cars on the other side got close and met with my right front end. Of course it was pitch black at the time so the damage looked minimal and I decided that I would not be able to proceed on to Charlotte. So instead I went in to the office after talking with the insurance company and rode the bus with the rest of the group instead. As I pulled off onto Harrison Blvd though, smoke started to pour out from under the hood. That's when I realized that the radiator was shot. Was able to limp to the office and parked it with the knowledge that it wouldn't leave the parking lot except on a flat bed. When I got out of the car (more light available now) I saw exactly how bad the car was. Can't open the hood so I don't know what's damaged under there, but will find out next week. Was able to take pictures today. They don't look too bad, but it does suck.

Cosby, I watched the Russian paintless dent guy in Cary take out all the damage of a deer running square into the door of a new civic without there being any evidence of it happening when he was done. As long as there is no folded over metal he can make it good as new for far less than a body shop in ~ a 1/2 a day. The guy is a magician with metal. You could then use the leftover from the insurance check for go fast goodies. :D

FYI, Cosby, I checked with 2 PDR outfits when we hit a deer a few years back in our Satu.... uh... old car. They both said that if the damage is at the edge of the panel (was kinked down over the headlight area, otherwise was very minimal damage) there's little they can do. We ended up at a real body shop and had to replace the hood. Good luck!

If you manage to avoid trees, and other cars, post deer, I believe it comes under act of (diety here) and your insurer covers the whole schmere. Atleast that is what happened when I nailed a deer five hundred yards from my house and did 4K to a car I owned for three weeks. Kenny Hawkins did my Volvo, looked like new.

Wow, that's ugly. And the deer didn't make it look any better, either.

Deer only = comprehensive claim, not considered a standard 'accident'. This is like replacing an expensive windshield :) Good luck with everything Cosby. - AB

Yep, Allstate had us clarify whether "we hit the deer"=collision or the "deer hit us"=comprehensive.

Total worth of the damage.......~$3200!!!!!! Cost to me, a mere $100. Car will be back around the 26th. For an extra $2k or so, I can get the entire car repainted just to get scuffed up again in about a month at the first event, or I can let it go till later. Now I've got to find a legitimate reason to tell myself that it's time to trade it in on something new.

I doubt that will happen either. I've got new goodies that I want to put on and play with before I give this car up. :P

Let's get this straight -- you play in mud which is made with water and dirt and your car get's drowned. The same mud exists in a field where the deer and the antelope play and one headbutts your car. Maybe you should focus on driving on asphalt?
