Here's what the US gets from Ford for the 2008 Focus. (now a 7+ year old Chassis)

The US Focus looks like it should be carrying the Saturn badge.

I like the orange one though. It looks like it would make a good rallycross car!!!!!!

I will say, it is nice to see they put a little bit of the old cossie escort flair into the orange one.

maybe one day car companies will realize that America likes more than just trucks and econo-boxes.

if it really is a 7 year old chassis, that means its justa dolled up version of the current US focus correct? IF they'd just use the C170 platform (current euro focus, mazda3, and vovlo s40 platform) it'd be a marked improvement over what they have here now. . .

Yikes. Ford guy that I am, I refuse to believe this comes from Dearborn (or Hermosillo). Looks like a cross between a Saturn and a Hyundai.

I hope Ford does find a way to stem the money hemorraging so that they can invest in new car development again. (At least retooling US factories to produce their existing European/Australian models). AMC proved you can milk an old chassis as your primary model for a long time (1969 Hornet -> 1988 Eagle) but you'll go out of business eventually.

I need Ford to stay around for when I'm ready to buy my next new Mustang, in ..umm.. 2024.

Don't get me wrong. I like Mazda, even though they've never built a sports car with adequate headroom for me. However, as dumb as you think Ford might be, you have to acknowledge that Mazda would not exist but for a bail-out by Ford in the 1990s, and I doubt they would have been able to launch the Miata in 1989 if Ford hadn't taken a financial interest in the company before that.

If you drive a Miata or an RX-7 or an RX-8 or a Protege or Mazda 3/6 or a Mazdaspeed anything, or a Jaguar, Land Rover or Aston Martin (it could happen), you can thank some crazy executive at Ford who approved funding those companies with the profits from millions of Tauruses, F-150s, Explorers and Mustangs :) when he probably should have invested the money in keeping the Taurus (and Mustang and Escort/Focus) up-to-date.

I think we can all agree Ford (or Ford owned Companies) can build modern up to date quality cars...even under the Ford name. They just seem to refuse to do it in the US for some reason.
