and it was slow. :?

It was an 05 with a warm-air intake and incredibly stupid-sounding blowoff valve. According to the sales guy, otherwise stock. Would that make it feel like a lowly WRX? Didn't even come close to the shove in the back my STi gives - or even the FXT. I had heard good things about the twin-scroll turbo, so I was pretty disappointed. Maybe it was just worn out after 15k miles...

I did like the brake feel and the steering feel. Ride and handling felt different from STi, sometimes better sometimes worse. EVO felt like a much lighter car. Seats were nice, but seating position was way too high. Handbrake was at an awkward angle, too.

I don't think it would do the stunts that my STi did at the Sanford autox.

I think the EVO MR is more on par with the STi.

Evo's supposedly have some power limiting features to help protect the drivetrain under hard launch, too. Not sure if it was just launch or all around power you were underwhelmed with (I'm guessing the latter, so this probably isn't much of a factor). Just thought I'd mention it...never driven an Evo.

I know my stock STi whooped up on a mild SM prepped Evo to 60' at the Wendover ProSolo, and he had a lot more tire than we did.

The only real differences with between the MR and the standard EVO are the 6 speed vs. the 5 speed transmission, the shocks, and the wheels. Everything else is the same, since the standard EVO and RS got all the additional features that would have made the MR special when it was introduced.

The 05 base EVO's didnt get the pimpy difs until 06 AFAIK. So that would make it a bit more equal to the STi.

I meant acceleration in general. The power did come on more smoothly than with a 2.0L WRX, as in I didn't feel turbo lag so much. But it just didn't come on very strong.

The ACD became standard equipment on all EVOs in 2005.

So when is somebody going to bring one of these to an autox and actually drive it? I'd like to do a fun run in one that's not in questionable condition.

No sh*t! The only one I've seen all year was the white RS at the NCAC and it was on R-comps.

I test drove a salvage titled POS one recently and it still drove great. I would say that the turn-in on the Evo's is one of it's strongest traits; similar to the S2k.

There was a guy that showed up to the first Sanford event this year in one. The only memoriable thing about him was his insistance that his Evo was an STX car, not STU!

Yeah, but I bet the STI and EVO will still turn in similar numbers after 80kmi on the stock motor. How bout the 7? :D

Obviously you don't know as much about 3rd gens as you think. My RX-7 with over 130,000 miles...is on its 3rd motor. Speed costs you. Of course, I have half the cash in my car as the cost of one of these AWD boy racers. But then again, I'm working on it more than I'd like too.

What bugs me about the EVO and increasingly more cars (not sure about the STi) is the chassis dynamics are characterized by software.

Now with some tweaking either could walk from my "stockish" RX-7 on a straight.

LS1 is the answer for all your problems.

FD is by far the best looking car out of the three.
